Got these FK lowering caps for my 16v. They fit the lowering springs which I have fine but the top where the bearing sits doesn't seem to be right.
I expected the top of the lowering cap to be convex (not flat with a small recess as shown in the first photo) so that it sits in the bearing concave recess. What do you think?

The above are both on sale from an ebay seller. The ones I have look like the 16v ones but it looks like the ones I need are for an 8v even tho I have a 16v. Do you think I have the wrong bearings?

one is mk2 and the other is mk3 if I'm not mistaken.

16v 8v and VR should the same

They are listed on ebay as different. As it says above one is supposed to be for a mk3 8v and the other for a mk3 16v. The 8v one does look the same as one listed for a mk2 which suggests I have the correct lowering cap but the bearing doesn't appear to seat on it correctly. :undecided:

They are the same, only difference was the spring size on early cars.

Thought so

I am sure the different shaped ones are mk2.

Ok I've assembled the spring and strut and its fits together fairly well although you can unseat the bearing with some lateral pressure but perhaps once it is under load this will not be possible. Just doesn't seem as good design as the mk2 cap which sits inside the bearing.

That I am sure will be fine under load.

where theres blame theres a claim

I used those plates once. When i bought them new i found the centre hole was slightly too small so i took the excess paint off with a dremel. If you have just the plate and the strut with no spring on it that plate should just slide down the shiney shaft of the strut. If it sits on top the hole is too small. The wider part of the shiney shaft which starts just below the thread goes inside the bearing, the cap goes below this. That bearing is not moveable when it's seated correctly.
In your opening post you have 2 pics. The one on the left shows the bearing upside down.

Yeah sorry what I meant was you can unseat the lowering cap from the bearing not unseat the bearing because the hole in the middle of the cap is a wider diameter than the diameter of the shiny shaft  The bearing doesn't move.

Likewise, the centre hole on mine were very tight and had to file mine out slightly.
