So this set of morons in government tells people to fill their cars up for no reason whatsoever. That means that one of the two petrol stations in my town is dry, and the other was jam-packed so I couldn't get in.
But I'm not panic buying, my needle was about 1mm off the white empty line and I had to sit in 10 minutes of f**king traffic with no fuel because the general public are f**king morons who just panic like children because there isn't a strike on fuel carriers.
-
Agreed, it took me 45 mins to fill up at 11.45am today due to queues. The local supermarkets (Asda, Tesco & Morrisons) were out of both petrol & dieseasel. Imagine what its going to be like tonight/tmrw morning.
I drive 65 miles everyday for work and only had a range of 20 miles so needed fuel, unlike those who were panic buying.
The news this afternoon reads that the g'ment are still informing drivers to top-up half empty tanks, so they must know that the strike is impending, but bad call on their behalf at this stage.

Yeah well my mate is digging a jerry can out for me. It takes 10 or 15 minutes to walk to either petrol station tomorrow so I MIGHT get fuel if they have any. Then I have to walk about 30 minutes home with a f**king can of fuel in my hand. Oh and isn't it about 25 degrees out?

Jerry can in one hand and beer in the other, but no fags

Are you going to stand in line like a car with everyone else sat in their car? Yyour going to look very funny, but with that beer in hand, everyone will be real envious!
Beer and Jerry FTW

Isn't this exactly what you are criticising in your first post?
-
No, people were filling jerrys after filling their cars. I need a can because I have no fuel in my car thanks to these f**kwits
-
tanker drivers cant go on strike without giving 7 days notice. if they are going to strike it will be over easter to get the most impact. This whole panic buying thing is just retarded
-
i do a 44 mile round trip to work and ive told my work today if i run out of work tuff sh!t i wont be in ill be working on my golf instead.
I personally think its the goverment / news stations fault at the end of the day if they hadnt started promoteing the fuel strike no 1 would be any wiser and people would just carry on as normal.
As for idiots fueing there cars up or no aparant reason i find that more annoying then the idoits that drive round with there tops up on there cars when i cant get my cab on the road yet cause im not happy with it.
Also asda , Tesco was out of fuel and the esso round the corner only had petrol and the ques comeing out of that was causeing a traffic jam lol
-
lets hope the 99 and vpower stuff lasts a little longer
-
people are such morons, im a courier for yodel (boo hisssss yeah yeah yeah) and i couldn't deliver anything within a half mile radius of tesco in helston. i don't get paid for failed stops, and made me late. for no reason, peple individually are quite clever but as a crowd, morons, f**king morons.

Not round here, it was the first fuel to disappear  Now diesel and unleaded are gone. I'm sure it'll be full soon enough, no panic here.
It's a pity I can work just about anywhere with internet, why can't the internet hamsters go on strike...

I wonder if the government said "go jump off a cliff" wud we do it, I think not!
So why the hell are people listening to them now, this panic buying is just gonna raise fuel prices....
-
i work from home also.... gonna try sneak in a fill up late at night. Once all the 'lets fill up early' morons run out of fuel, Im going to have the best 100 miles from a full fuel tank ever

Wondered what all the fuss was about on the way back from the hospital last night...similar boat as needle nearly on red so thought it was time to top up before warning light came on. Been off all day today so full tank of fuel sat waiting for empty roads and a blat

Ye u read it right
I was desperate as I was on red and I'm sure half the people queuing up had more than enough to get home whereas I wouldn't have. Luckily I can fill up with vpower which ppl weren't so was ok in the end
-
that has got to be one of the most    things I have heard
well since david cameron said,
well yes if people are passing a petrol station and only have half a tank then they should fill up
:lipsrsealed:
-
been on red since monday as I've been ill, got to go out tomorrow into town, bugger filling up.
my mum uses £15 fuel a month (that's about 2 days for me ), she said she put £30 in incase the strike is going on for 2 months    I hope I'm not like her when I'm older  :undecided:

Why is that all mothers seem to drive no real distance? My brother lives nearby to my mum N do uses here garage for his motorbike and convinced her to put each other on their insurances...he never has to fill up as a result. She gets in it empty...and has this thing that a car has to have half a tank in, so he waits and then uses that one till empty again
-
the 1 garage in town by me wont let the normal public use there deisel pumps they keep it for the taxis and working vehicles they did that when we had the fuel blockades which i agree with tbh
-
Pretty lucky as my mum works for the NHS and is on the road a lot normally means priority. Did last time.
Dunno how much is in the Skoda, probably about a tenner.
Do I try and stick £20 in tonight or tomorrow? I really need to be out in it on the road tomorrow and my mums at work. :undecided:
Not even sure if they're out or not round here. Not bothered about the strike, worried about them selling out due to camergoon. I wish there was something else petrols would run on really well, just running the van on alternative sources atm.

-
i poor now i was forced to panic buy, i only bought a load as or incase all the panicers were not leaving any for normal fillers and id be stuck in when need fuel i usually only buy 20 quid every 4 days.I expect this is reason why most people bought it certanly is why i did. Least i know il have fuel now. It is like a plaque ha once it starts it dont stop. I wasnt even bothered until i hurd some could run out. I knew this would happen lol.

Me too
There was a bloke filling up his 4x4 and about 10 jerry cans he had in the back. If you didn't know what was going on you'd think the end of the world is coming and everyone is stocking up!
-
Supermarkets will be selling out of water and tinned foods next!
Quick, time to build shelters under our houses!!

Good point! I will buy all the water next. I already have 12 20 litre jerry cans topped up with fuel (diesel and petrol). :lipsrsealed:
-
Great! No fecking Diesel anywhere round here. Guess the moving won't continue tomorrow. Anyone know if the regular sized Tesco or ASDA sell beg oil in bulk?
-
feeling rather smug here
filled the daily with no ques the other day, as luck has it the trucks full and so are the 2 other cars on the drive. also got a nice full 1000 ltr tank of white diesel      and if all that runs out there is allways pink
-
well i pulled into my local tesco about an hour ago to see huge a huge que. Luckily for me some silly bint in a range rover was blocking everyone enough for me to sneak in round the other side and full up on tescos 99 finest. Paid at the pump.. in and out within about 5mins

not too bad in newbury yet  few supermarkets have ran out and diesel is scarce but put £50 of unleaded in mine yesterday at 141.9 which isnt too bad :L and it shell fuel save
-
I reckon the arseholes in the government cause panic on purpose people rush out and fill there cars up government arseholes still fill there pockets.
-
In Nottingham last night was a nightmare! I'm very low on fuel and have work this weekend so will need to drive about 50 miles over the two days (not much I know but I'm running it dry at the moment!)
Didn't bother queuing up last night at Sainsburys or Tesco because it was outrageous, I'm hoping I'll be able to find one on the way to work early tomorrow when they aren't so busy
-
Numpties one and all!
Stuck is Morrisons car park in Neath for ages after taking my Gran shopping. FFS. All the roads in and out blocked as well. Chaos. Fair play they had staff marshalling the roads, but the volume of traffic... ARGH!!!
There's no shortage of fuel and there's no strike announced. Come on people!!
Idiots.
-

juts got some from shell by waitrose in newbury, little wait but nothing mad.
-
Had to purchase £5's worth of super unleaded for the dirt bike.
Wonder if it will run any better. Noticed though, they charged £5.01. Looked at the machine and it was dead on £5.00. Robbing tw@ts.
-
Yes the idiots are emptying every station like f**king lemmings, my mrs nearly ran out on the way back from Reading earlier as she couldn't find any diesel. She did manage to get some £80 to fill up the mk4 shows just how empty it was !!
-
My brother was waiting with fuel warning light on and the BMW in front popped his boot with 4 containers, filled them up and then the tank as well...can't think why there might be an issue with the normal supply rates
-
had to fill mine up as the light was on, only put £30 in though, hopefully by the time i run out so will all the petrol stations, no work for me
wasnt even any ques though, however they had ran out of deisel, everywere that did have deisel was queing like mad.
anyone else noticed that, all the old tw@s with there boring dervs
-
The garages and government will have made a killing on this, all the tax made on the fuel + the stations selling twice as much in one month......
The Tanker drivers all on OT up to the strike delivering more fuel and the fuel companies for selling more fuel.
The only losers are the people panic buying the fuel who did not need to spend the extra dosh on tanking their cars, and then the people who did not turn into Sheep......
All my local stations are empty and I have an 1/8 of a tank, which wont last with my thirsty old girl.
Looks like I will be breaking out my Shanks pony
-
Every year, every time, panic buying bunch of dicks more addictive than crack!
Come monday the stations will be full and back to normal?
-
How would the government and fuel stations be making a killing over this, exactly?
-
I'm waiting for the independant petrol stations to put up there prices so we can boycott them and they go out of business I remember that happened to a family run business a few years back greedy fkers!
-
How would the government and fuel stations be making a killing over this, exactly?
They have just sold out all their fuel and will probably do well for the next week or so while this threat of a strike loom.
+ The increased foot fall in there shops will mean overall retail sales will be up.....
On this increase of fuel sales the government will of course take the lions share in duty, not to mention the other duties paid on petrol station goods.
If the strike does happen then maybe some losses will be incurred, but then the customer will buy more of what is available.........
Damage will occur if we get to rationing through a fuel shortage at the supply end not through supplies not getting delivered due to strike action
-
How would the government and fuel stations be making a killing over this, exactly?
this is what im thinking. its not asif the fuel has a use by date and if it isnt used by the end of the weekend you have to drain your tank, they were still gonna spend the money on petrol just not right now...
also anyone hear about that lass that cought fire de-cantering petrol out of a jerry can, at first i felt sorry for her, then heard she was decantering it next to her cooker as she was cooking dinner, i mean how stupid do you have to be ffs. i hope she gets better and makes a speedy recovery still but no longer has any sympathy from me, we all make stupid mistakes ect but thats just rediculous...

They have spent it early and most will then brim their tanks at the next available pump for fear of running out rather than making a tank last for a long period of time.....
Panic buying makes people rich end of

Does that mean if I fill my tank up to full, I will use more petrol than I normally do, or just drive around showing people I have fuel
Or will people just stop using their cars for abit untill the panic is all over?
-
No, but the panic buyers will fill up at half a tank on Monday and so on until the strike blows over.
Petrol sales will be up for the month, sales going up means more money and profit.......
The reason the stations are empty is cos they sold all the fuel, my local has been emptied twice in two days.
At 1.46 a litre that's serious money changing hands
-
(http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/jayton82/fuuuuuuuupetrol.jpg)
lolz.
-
I filled up yesterday, at 11.55am. Local tesco. Joined a queue of about 5 cars, there was a woman diverting derv cars to the one pump with no queue as unleaded had ran out there. (Had to shamefully admit I use the dark pump)
As we left the forecourt it was about 12.10 and people had obviously rushed out at lunch. The queue was about 30 cars long into the road. Idiots.

That logic only means if they use more fuel?
The petrol companies would loose potential revenues i.e rise in prices or taxes on fuel that could have been consumed at a later date when prices actually increased?
Short term money increases but are they doing more miles to use that fuel? Like you said half tank, qtr tank, eventually its a full tank?
-
Sales will be up for the month, more profit more tax paid and full gerry cans sitting garages for the next
6 months.
My local has sold more fuel in the last 3 days than the previous days in the month, and is now being filled up by dhl tankers....

yeah but people are still going to use the same amount of fuel, they will be making more profit now, but when everyone has there baths, sinks and every other container in there house full they arent going to pop out to the petrol station there going to use the stuff they have at home, meaning the petrol stations wownt make as much then, therefore there going to be making the same amount of money, the only way there going to make more profit now is if they rais there prices, which they havent around my end i dont know about youse.

2p up since monday.........
They may go a week or two on the bottom of wave but it will settle down with a net profit.
Some of the guys at work moonlight in the BP stations near me and they are laughing over this.
I also know people who have tanked there second and third cars just in case....
-
The government won't make any more profit in the long run, only the petrol stations that have hiked their prices will and then it's only off the fools brimming their tanks now.
W/E happens I don't care, I can work from home so won't loose out and it's actually a blessing working at home
EDIT: My wife the "Wallingford ESSO Petrol & Diesel price spotter" said the diesel price has gone down from 147.9 to 146.9 so there ya go, the local Scott who runs the station isn't ripping us off
-
Can the revenue from the incresed sales this month, be a way for the government to fiddle the figures on the fact that we have slipped into a second recession? The last quarter of last year was in contraction on .3% and its almost definate that the first quarter of this year will be similar meaning we are officially back into a recession.
-
Glad to see someone else has thought about the TIMING. Right at the end of the tax year.

It's a cynical point of view that i happen to agree with as nothing this government does suprises me anymore..

No.

Its just ridiculas at the minute. Dam panic buyers with the radio and media not helping situations!
Typical British mentality everyone's head falls off when they hear news like this week. Stupid.
-
well played government, well played
-
It's a load of sh!t, i needed some petrol as my golf was low. I was driving into the road where the forecourt was, to find cones blocking the entry. I then seen a few people in high visibility jackets, one told me that the petrol station was closed due to the petrol station causing bad traffic jams. I then noticed the huge que of traffic all around the supermarket so i had to go all the way to the back and que just to get out of the car park. It took 45 minutes just travel about 0.2 miles
-
Been out to the supermarket today and as I got closer, ''yes you guess it'' still the panic buying goes on, thankfully I haven't needed diesel for the past week and half and still don't...
I had to go out the wrong way otherwise I wud of been caught in the fuel queues...
Having just logged on i checked the news updates on this...http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/2012/03/31/petrol-panic-buying-continues-despite-no-fuel-tanker-driver-strike-over-easter-86908-23808123/

Is the fuel panic affecting Birmingham?
Only asking cus my dad was up there on wednesday for work and he says it's all good there...
-
Its getting better in london just filled up no problems this morning !!
-
Yahoo/msn etc are showing 'top tips to make your petrol last longer'....don't sit in a f**king petrol station queue like a moron to squeeze an extra few litres in the tank thus making a problem that shouldn't exist even worse.
