Title: New leak
Post by: mbradbrook on 28 March 2012, 19:57
After having my water pump replaced a couple of months ago, the car is now leaving light oily patches on the drive way. I've looked under the car and it appears to be dripping (only a small amount) from the rear right of the engine. The liquid is more wet than oily and does not smell of coolant. Could this be condensate from the aircon mixing with oil and grime on the underneath of the engine? I've searched on the forum and can't find anyone else with a similar problem.

Cheers

Matt

Mine always leaves a dribble under it, probably just the Aircon, mine is never off..

That's what i hope. To be fair i've only noticed it over the last week when the weather has been hotter. My a/c is also always on. The only concern i have is that it is a little oily and leaves a stain on the drive.

The water will almost certainly be from the aircon; but oil and grime underneath the engine  There shouldn't be any oil underneath the engine on a fairly new car, if there is you need to get it looked at.

Be interesting to see if the oil leak is similar to mine

Why not just wait till the weather cools off and you're not using the aircon. Then have another look and see if the problem's still there. If it's not it's just the aircon.

There seems to be a common problem with the coolant water pump housing as I've just had mine replaced last week too.
Mine also leaves, what looks like wetish oil on my drive, but upon inspection of the fluid it doesn't seem to be oil, phew. However, I've hardly used my A/C and why does it always look wet/oily.
When my GiT was in for the above replacement I did ask them to look for another fluid leak but that came back negative and during its recent service there were no low levels of any fluids (except the coolant of course).

Hmm....it just bothers me that it appears that there is a leak but nothing is found by the spanner-monkeys.....?

Checked again tonight and there was hardly anything on the bottom of the engine so hopefully it is just the aircon. The car is a 59 plate with 25k on the clock so there is a little grime on the underneath of the engine bay. Even so i would not expect condensate to leave marks on the drive when it has dried.

Snoopy - I had a look at your photo. Is that taken from the underneath of the car looking up? (is that the right hand drive shaft?).

If this was my mk2 16v i'd have no problem seeing where the leak is coming from - the mk6 engine bay is crammed full!
