Title: What not to do after a £400 service
Post by: Ant1981 on 28 March 2012, 16:29
After spending on a service, first MOT and new front tyre on Saturday, I really didn't think it'd end up like this.....

Low sided, I leant too far too soon on a new front tyre and it just went. Should always take it easy on new tyres. Quite what I was thinking at the time, I do not know.

Quite what I was thinking at the time, I do not know.

What all people on sports bikes are thinking: one of two things:

I AM A RIDING GOD!

or

I AM A POWER-RANGER!

HTHs

Damn shame  as said at least you are ok.

Bet that fairing is going to cost, how much do you think it will cost to repair eveything?

Luckily I was in full leathers, so got up in the road and walked over to my bike.

There's a part of the frame that hangs the engine and that needs welding, had a quote of 650 plus vat for that due to how involved it is. On top of that there's the cost of the fairings etc which I'm not sure about, but don't think it'll be cheap.

Don't tell insurance. Due to the chassis damage. (welding) it is written off. Even with a brand new chassis you will not aloud it back on the road.

To be honest that looks fine. Been around bikes my whole life and seen some sad looking bikes and lost some friends too.

That can easily/cheaply be fixed

sickening

at least it was just a low side. When mine went it decided to high side me at the last minute, thought I'd got away with it. Came away with torn intercostal muscles (where my arm was by my side when I hit the tarmac) and concussion

Full leathers or just basic bike gear is such a simple thing to save your skin, the amount of idiots just wearing a T shirt and shorts on sports bikes is unreal

I know Wazzer, makes me cringe when I see them in tee and shorts.

might be cheaper easier to get a new frame. £650 is quite a bit for some tigging really.

New tank - and frankenstein the fairings (drill holes and cable tie the cracks) - she be right as rain!

I had a 7R that was recovered from a tree - had the frame straightened and welded due to it cracking, was fine!

Glad you haven't hurt more than your pride. Mate has a 600 Ninja. It's nice, but bikes scare me ever since another friend was killed on his Fireblade.

I can understand the thrill of it all, but you can't fall off a car.

Yeah. Bikes are dangerous. So are cars - don't forget, that you can have an accident in a car, get trapped in it due to the front of it coming back so far its broken your legs and no one can get you out as the fuel ignites and burns you to death while being conscious for most of it.

True story from a fireman mate.

Unlucky mate. You have to worry about number 1 first though...the bike will be back one day!!

What is a low side? Are there such incidents called medium and high sides?  :undecided:

A low side is where you lose the front end of a bike and fall down low.

No medium sides, but a high side is where the rear end starts to slide, then grips, which can throw you up into the air / over the bike if there is enough force in it.

Although I'm not a bikist and don't like the agressive way that MANY (NOT ALL) drive, I do feel for you pal. Complete g*ts !

With low sides you tend to just slide on your arse down the road while watching the bike slide on the tarmac. High side spit you off and flick you over onto the road with a fair bit of force. High sides tend to follow what you think will be a low side lol
