Post by: Tucky on 28 March 2012, 14:20
Hi again chaps today i have been offerd a 1.6 gollf auto 3 door mk 4 year 2000 with 67 k on the clock and one lady owner from new for a bargin of £400 she needs a new drivers window and also over heats after 15 minutes of driving. Im thinking this could be a sensor as the fans dont cut in  . I have checked the header tank and also around the oil cap and all is fine and has no signs of any head gasket issues. Pelase can one of you lot help me and suggest what the problem may be. Im stuck as weather to buy this or a mk2 16 valver many thanks for you opions.

Couldl be the water pump - Check if the water is being recirculated back into the header tank, take off the small top hose with the engine running

Check for fault codes see the sticky link at the top of the mk4 page "first thing to do if you car has a fault"

My money is on the sensor, i have just fixed a 1.4 Seat which had the same symptoms and it was the sensor - if it is there will be a fault code

Oh and buy the MK2
