Right folks ive been offerd two golfs thi week that im looking at getting truth of the matter I camn only really afford one of them first is a mk 4 AUTO 1.6 3 door 1 owner from new with 67 k. This one runs fine how ever over heats after 15 minutes. The head gasket and water pump are showing no signs of oil crude aetc so presuming its just the fan switch as the vans dont work ??? This has been offerd to me at £400 mint intrerior and body work. :smiley: I have also been offered a mk 2 112k on the clock 3 door big bumper 16 valver :drool: for the same money just had head gasket done new water pum,p cam and timeing belt. Either way what ever one i get will be selling straight away which one would you go for ?? Thanks for opions im just trying to work out which will be the better option

Not sure there's even anything to think about. Depends what you want from a car. I certainly wouldn't want a dog slow auto mk4 that's for sure!

If you were keeping the car ide say mk2 anyday. but as youve said your going to sell it on streight away i could see a tiny bit more profit in the mk4.

If your buying to sell on then Mk2.
If your buying to keep then Mk2.
If your buying with the intention of destroying then MK4.

But know you would easy sell the mk2 where as the mk4 would be a pain in the ass.
hmm tough one really, ive seen a few mk4s with small engines and autos sell in less than a week, but ive also seen some that have taken a long time, luck of the draw really

Been down seen the car tonight(mk2 ) shes done 105k need to get a new window mechnisim just had the head gasket water pump cam belt and timeing done :grin: when shes runing both the water and oil light turn on ive been told by the lad i need to flush the sytem. Checked the header tank good water and good oil as well. Any ideas what it could i managed to barter him down from 350 - 250 cash GET IN :smiley: she has a full straight through exhaust system smoked rear lights and big bumpers

Sadly not. The mk1 is irreplaceable :drool: But that's not to say the mk2 isn't a new classic in its own right.

Lets get some facts here.
why is it selling so cheap, remember this is in Jersey so no MOT.
Mk4 will be a lot easier to sell then the Mk2 as there are not many VW Fan bois overe here.
I'm guessing it's the Midnight Blue 5 door one?

MK4 auto will sell miles easier round these. Sold one not long ago with 64k and in silver. Sold well. :)
Who is going to want an old knackered MK2 in the general public eyes? Only enthusiasts and the enthusiasts won't want the MK4.
But there's more general public then enthusiasts. But only if the MK4 is an easy fix.
