Post by: wsmith on 27 March 2012, 18:36
hi all ive had my car in the garage today to put a new thermostat on it as my cars not running up to 90 and take ages to warm up.
so when i went to pick it up after work the said they couldnt do it as its a big job because you need to take the front end off and the injecters, is this right cheers its a mk4 1.8 turbo aum

Rubbish. I've heard of people removing the alternator to gain access but never the inlet and injectors. It's just fiddly.

alternator needs to come out if its a non-turbo (well its easier to) but there's plenty of room on a 1.8T. AGU is slightly easier than AUM because there's less tat in the way.

generally that's sound advice. if you're jacking the car up to change the thermostat however... you're doing it wrong from the start
