L52M SCHWARZBLAU, was not really a rare colour as I recall, and visits to VW shows would reveal that there are still plenty about...
And what does it say on your Logbook about the colour, my guess is that its a Blue!

Open the trunk and look around the spare tyre there should be one sticker, and on it is written all the data for the car, VIN number, engine type, gear box type and on it you can fine the original paint number for the car like it come from the factory, if it is not repainted.
He already has the paint code! but couldn't find his colour on the linked list in the above thread...
When I get back to work next week, I'll check the paint code, and see when it was introduced by VW, its most likely a colour that was brought in towards the end of the Mk2 production run... though I'm sure I've seen it on SB cars!
Anyone have a SCHWARZBLAU SB car?

The colour was used for 18 months from 90 to mid 91 I believe, sure someone put me straight when I got mine and was asking similar questions, again I think it was only available on 16V model, and it was an extra from new, sure that is all correct, someone will put me right if not, good on here for that

I've bought a mk2 just over a month ago. Just assumed it was black until I checked the sticker and saw l52m.

When it's clean and the sun catches it a certain way you can see the blue but most of the time it just looks black. Car is a 16valve on an H plate.

This is mine, has a green tint also in certain light/sun.

Sorry to be pedantic but L52M is black-blue, not blue-black. Blue-black (blauschwarz) has the code LP5T and is a similar colour but has a gray/blue/green tinge to it. I believe it was a rare colour too. Mine says black on the logbook and is darker than the above cars.

I've got one on the drive a BB 5 door model that came fully loaded with extra's...
Only bought it for the headlight washers... Which are proper rare...
I tend to think that the only real rare colour (and I stand to be corrected) is BBM (not just cos I've bought one either) - Not Oak Green or L52M etc
As the experts - Mr Blue etc say there were only 500 RHD versions... How true this is I don't know!! But there must be 95% of the 500 still left from the amount that come up for sale.... Comments welcomed..

How many of the monza blue was there, Cause i had mine 12 years now, And only ever seen 2 others,

Blackpug mine to is LP5T which is pictured above, as you say reflects blue/green in the sun, whenever it comes out that is;)

Right, did a bit of research today at work, I have some very old ICI colour reference books, and should be taken as "Gospel"
There are 2 version of SCHWARZBLAU (Blue Black) and thats not 2 different shades, but 2 entirely different colours, separated by many years, and advancement it paint technology, and the resurrection of an old colour.
1, L52M Schwarzblue 1970 to 1975, was a basic metallic, 3 base tinters, and a medium aluminium fleck to make it a metallic.
2, LP5T Schwarzblue M, 1990 to 1992, was a full on pearl colour, 3 base tinters, and 3 pearl tinters (Red, Blue, Green)
So it looks like VW resurrected L52M from the 1970s for its flagship Mk2 GTI's, up until the face lift BB model, when VW introduced LP5T with their increasing range of Pearl colours... Bright Blue metallic, and Pearl Grey, replacing Atlas Grey of which there still seems to be a great deal of confusion over, but thats another story, I also now need to check whether BBM is actually a Pearl :lipsrsealed:
The lack of certain colours from the GTI colour guides earlier in this thread, point to Schwarzblau being a Special order only, or, my educated guess, is that its likely that it may have been a colour designated for demonstrator cars supplied to the Dealers, but that is a guess...
