Title: Detail of my golf
Post by: R32UK on 26 March 2012, 00:31
I know I very rarely frequent this part of the forum (and commonly take the pi$$ out of you lots) but my new car seems to have quite a few swirl marks. The rest of the paint work looks in very good condition but figured seeing as its summer etc etc I would book myself a detail.

After nearly having a heart attack at the price... I now have one booked for Wednesday. Anything I should do to prepare myself/car before hand??

Anything I should look out for whilst the car is being worked on??

Thanks in advance

Where/who have you booked it in with? For what sort of detail, ie how thorough?

Providing the detailer is an upstanding member of the detailing world I'd imagine he will do everything in regards to preparing your cars paint before the polishing etc. It will probs take about a day right?

The only thing I can think off it remove everything from the inside of the car so old receipts and car parking ticket won't slow him down

Not much in the car to slow him down...

went with http://www.leedsdetailing.co.uk/ in the end. They seem to have some good reviews etc, so will post results on here and recommend if any good

Looks like a good site, that's always a start. Which package did you go for in the end? The full wet sand

been told its far from requiring a wet sand... but swirls on flat black really do show up in this weather. Didnt go for a package as such, just set the gent a budget and he was very happy to accommodate and told me what to expect.

includes the engine bay and interior also, but would like him to concentrate most of the time on the exterior tbh.

I also know it wont stay that clean for very long... but with the swirls gone it gives me something to work with.

How much if you don't mind me asking. A mate of mine has just brought a 3 year old black Bimmer 1 series M Sport that an exterior detail?

Get some pictures up when you get a chance.

how did it go?

how did it go?
In all honesty... 50% good 50% not so good. Car looks fantastic and like glass almost. However... at the right angle and in bright sunlight there are still a fair few swirls on the paint.

I will reserve judgement until its complete... he has another full day at it tomorrow, so will wait and see. Although he cant be faulted for effort, and the difference between before and after is incredible

I have taken a few pictures... but will post final shots with my digital camera

swirls or RDS (random deep scratches?) - it all depends if you have paid for an enhancement (swirl removal) or correction (full removal)... unfortunately the latter can take hours and hours and hours...

look forward to seeing the finished results - keep a look out for hologramming as that can be as important as the correction itself

Have paid for a correction... but the paint seems to suffer from all over swirls and a few scratches which are not very deep. Yesterday was spent using a fairly abbrasive compound, and today will be done with a finer one (?)

followed by seal and wax, inc engine bay and interior. I would imagine he has been away and searched for similar examples online to try find a better solution.... at least I hope he has  :undecided:

its typical for a correction to use an abrasive compound and then follow it up with a refinement... although with the abrasive compound you should be removing the swirls and with the refinement you should be removing the last of the swirls, which ironically can be caused by the abrasive compound, and any hologramming

hope it goes well!!

thanks Guy. Atleast I need know what I am looking out for..... tbf the gent seems to know what he is talking about (from the small amount of information I have gethered from here and DW). Better to just let him crack on with it.

Didnt look anywhere near as bad in floodlit car park last night... but could still see some swirls, so hopefully these will be removed today as you said.

unfortunately the pictures are not in any specific order.... but Im sure you all get the idea.

looked at it last night under lights and its still possible to see a few marks, but no where near as bad as before. In the correct light there are a few deeper scratches that stand out.. but generally its very hard to see them.

not entirely sure... did see some chemical boys(?) stuff in there. He mentioned some of the wax he was using was 70-75% concourse or something. I should have payed more attention!!

Car looks great but I still know some of the deeper scratches are there...  although they dont feel that deep to the touch :undecided:
