Title: next vw project
Post by: danny_p on 25 March 2012, 23:23
i'm thinking it's time for another old vw but being very indecisive of what one to get.

ually i would straight for a mk2 of some form or other but at some point over the last several years i driven every flavor ever made and owned all but one of said flavors, if one appeared for sale i probly be tempted to have a punt on it tho.

a mk2 16v  idea comes round occasionaly, buy a shed  use it as a rolling test bed and paint and tinker withit when can be arsed, then there is the rallye idea but they are fat and slow in std form  so that would need adjusting.  the idea that won't go away is a corrado

mk2 16v  or corrado  something ummmmmm

Buy an early Raddo 16v non runner for the price of a loaf of bread. Buy an 9a and use the kr cams, or better still an abf. As long as the bodywork is straight, your onto a winner. Corrado's are increasing in price atm too!

Corrado Nugget! G60.

mmm This....

Already having a MK1, if I wanted another project I'd be tempted by a 'rado.  Becoming a rarer site now, I'd even be tempted by a VR  :lipsrsealed:

If I could have anything though, I'd probably want to stay old skool and get myself a mk1 'rocco

G60s are great, if you can justify forking out £500 a time for charger rebuilds!

VR6s are great, if you can afford to run and insure em.

16v's are great, if your after an all rounder, and reasonable performance for little money.

8v's are great, ...........................................................................

Oh, if your after reasonable economy.

The Corrado would be my choice over other old skool VW's  I'm sure you could magic a charged ABF with your skills !

oh, just had an advert at the top for an 90's A4 Quattro ... that made me think, why not chuck in a charged engine of some description, after all you like Syncros, you like VAG cars, you have skills to make it happen...

If there was more to that mk1 Rocco I'd want it. But a complete mk2 as above is pretty tempting no?

been gone and bought one with a live grenade in the engine bay.

if all goes to plan i'll be bimbeling off to get it some point over the weekend just trying to work out if i should be cocky and take a few parts with me fit them there and drive it back, or be sensible and take van and trailer

I'd split the difference and take an A-frame.

Bear in mind that it's pretty tough to prevent a determined Danny from completing a mission - it needs a fairly sudden and catastrophic failure to get him into 'being recovered' mode.  This is the guy who's driven Golfs on three cylinders for a few hundred miles on the continent before now.... trying to remember the details, but IIRC it involved removing the sparkplug or something similar to just let it run without destroying itself.

The other one that stands out was turning up at my place in a shed GTI at one point, a bit spaced out and explaining that it had to be rebuilt during the night before and although it was running OK it *was* burning equivalent amounts of oil to petrol.

I think he knows that, as the Syncro has the same suspension, just less lard to carry around.

a truely amazing thing with petrol engines is just what will actualy run tho. that motor was just a load of scrap thrown into a cranck case and orderd to work,  thinking about it now it was amazing that it even started let alone survived being thrashed.

had a play with a few rallyes some much better than others but i know what the good ones cost to get them good and keep them good.  and my driveing style would not be appreciated by  glader unit thats been tweeked enough to make a rallye come alive.   i never go over 3000 rpm or half throttel untill the oil exhaust manifold is warm

got the syncro for 4wd fun,   hopefully going to fetch new toy sunday afternoon if can get hold of the kiddy,   going with the passat and a frame and a box of bits
