Is anyone on here rockin pressed plates on there mk6? I'm toying with the idea of getting some of the legal ones with the right font (not the German type) but haven't seen them on a 6.
-
I am.... hmm let me see if I've got any photos.
Sorry, haven't got any where you can tell they're actually pressed. I did get them off eBay though, £26 for the pair, the "pressed letters" aren't that "pressed" - but they still are - it's very subtle and I like it. A few people have noticed and mentioned them and said they look nice though, so they're noticeable to the trained eye.
-
These are them: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120751545173#ht_1396wt_1163

Yeah thats the ones i was looking at, the dealer cracked my rear one round the screw slightly when trying to find a clunk! Said it was loose.. I'll have a look through some of the picture threads, thanks scott, got to be worth a punt!
-
Personally, I think they only look any good if you have a nice short personal reg number.

Agreed, i've got a six character plate on mine. :undecided:

These look like a normal plate, same font etc but slightly and I mean only very slightly pressed. Personally I think all number plates look sh!te and I wish we could get away without them  but unfortunately we can't!

I was lucky enough to get in early when the single digit prefix ones were plentiful. I've even got plates on retention for the kids when they are old enough. I bought them for them when they were born. There is still a while to go as our eldest is only 8, but I figured by the time he's 17, I would not be able to buy anything like the plates I did.

What great idea!
I like your thinking....I will have to look into it for my 16mnth old daughter...

I don't have the carriers with "XXX Volkswagen" on them, I've used double sided pads to stick them on and they've been ok so far.

You don't have to if you buy from the eBay link I posted and they are road legal (apparently)
-
don't think they are as they're not reflective. the letter spacing may be legal though so you probably wouldn't attract too much attention from plod

Same surround as mine, in black rather than silver. I didn't put one on the front as I thought it looked too bulky, with the standard plate "plinth" already on the bumper.

No sir

Why not ditch the standard Plinth?? i have and it looks and fits fine with the dubmeister alternative.
-

Mine are the same as Steves,
if you get the Dubmeister carriers the plates just clip in the new housing so no drilling of plates, i had to put a couple more fixings in the plate carrier so it would bend around the shape of the bumper, carrier is not curved like the standard one,
-
@Saint steve @Neil gti and @Joegti are those the Dubmiester plates? I'm not sure about sending my log book to a 3rd party but they do look good... :undecided:

I got mine from a seller here in Ireland, great guy to deal with if you want to investigate if he can ship to the UK - www.eireplates.com
We obviously have much more lax regulations over here cos I've never heard of having to send off a log book just to get a set of plate surrounds

Yes they are Dubmeister plates,
I got mine done at one of the shows, went to the stand and ordered and paid for them without logbook, and they posted them to me as the i wasnt hanging around for 2 hrs in the queue
I think they class them as show plates so get around it that way, but they are fully road legal

I've had two sets of plates from Dubmiester and never had any issues sending my V5; send it 1st class special delivery for piece of mind
-

Yes Kenny same as Steves, looks spot on but no pics
-
Only thing is I need to send my v5 form and proof of I.d which an not so keen on
Any plates supplied without docs are show plates and could land you with a £60 fine.
-
Theres also an interesting thread on that other mk5 forum about pressed plates. Someone had an argument with the law about them (even though they were marked and sold as legal). I like them but if it gives the law an excuse to stop me for no reason i think i may just pass on them.
-
Looks like a group buy could be on the cards! £10 off if we can make the numbers.

Hi guys, just to clarify; you can send your documents via email provided they are scanned using a high enough dpi setting
-
Mine arrived today from eBay! Delighted with them, just need some number plate surrounds!

They look good mate, glad your happy with them just a shame you missed the group buy and could've saved yerself a fiver!
-
Cheers!
Ano, what are the chances! That's one less punt today now
-
Any ideas how your going to mount them yet? I think i'll drill mine so i can get the curve on the front mount. :undecided:
-
thats what I'm going to do
I've got a plate holder for the rear but with the front being curved i didn't want to fit one there so will just dill the plate
-
I haven't got round to fitting mine yet, can't decide whether to drill them or not? :undecided: i've been having a look for some decent carriers although i don't really want the ones with ABT on them tbh, my question is though, has anyone swapped the front curved mount for a carrier and how does it fit/look? Can you post a close up pic please?
I quite like "the spirit of Wolfsburg" ones but i'm not sure.. :undecided:

My plate on the front keeps popping off with just sticky pads, no matter how much I prep it/clean it and how many pads I use, I even bent the plate to the shape of the carrier, but any time it's sunny it pops off again at the corners!!! Just ordered some 3M Dual Lock, sounds good, got a metre of the stuff so if this doesn't hold it on, nothing will!

Do you have a link for them ?
-
I bent my from plate a little, cleaned both areas with brake cleaner then used a SH!t load of sticky tape.
I used some stuff I got from b&q. Think I posted a link to it earlier in this thread.
So far mine has held perfectly and it been washed a few times since and been in the heat too so it seems decent stuff.

Yup,

Dubmeister do them but only in chrome which i don't like.

Thanks Jimble. I think I like them. I'm in 2 minds about wither I think the writing is a bit big, I'd have preferred a more smaller font. would be nice to see a bigger picture than what the website shows and with it also fitted with a number plate.
