Title: Creaking when turning at low speeds *video included*
Post by: s-l-i-x on 25 March 2012, 17:20
Get a creaking noise when turning at low speeds (5mph or under) and stationary.

What could this be?

Running coilovers.

Was creaking when turning left when I had old OEM suspension on too, but recently does it when turning right too.

Top mounts?

Don't think they were replaced when coilies were put on about 2 years ago.

Would it be much of a ball ache to replace them now just at the front?

Piece of piss if your running coilovers, jack car up, wheels off, undo 19mm top nut. The hub/coilover should drop down giving you enough access to replace the top mount while it's still on the car

Piece of piss. Undo the bolt through the hub and strut, undo the drop link and top nut holding the strut in the engine bay.
Remove the strut, the top mount sits on top of the strut and the bearing is bolted to it.
Takes about an hour to change both sides really.

Okay thanks guys, how much for top mounts roughly?

The strut will have to be removed buddy as the bearing is bolted down.

If your changing just the mount then do exactly what Domo69 have said takes 20mins max. (check the bearing if its nice and free then just replace the mounts)

Just seen top mounts on euro car parts for £15. Are these the right ones?
