Post by: Gavo1989 on 25 March 2012, 15:34
Ok so im a little confused as to wich route to take. can anyone shed some light please.

Any help would be appriciated

I have the R32 DSG intake parts with a Green Cotton panel filter. Gave the same results on the rollers as having no airbox at all so as good as it can be

really? i have smoothed my airbox, drilled and got a pipercross panel filter. as soon as i took it out it felt much more responsive and better without one.

my iduction kit put my power right down on the map at r-tech as was causing to much heat soak so nick told me to throw it in the bin  and go with smoothed air box and panel filter once i changed back to them i noticed the difference some differ from others

On the inside of your airbox it will have raised rib type sections that can be cut back and filed flat to allow the air to flow as unrestricted as possible through the filter.

I dont quite see the logic with all the worries about heatsoak on a turbo car. Surely you just want maximum flow possible. The air is going into a red hot turbo anyway. If you want to lower inlet temps get a better fmic?

The seat boys love the huge jetex cone filters and I know prawn on audisport got a MAF reading of 182g/s in comparison to 171g/s with a airbox and panel filter. Using the whole divide by 0.8 I think he reckons he saw about 7bhp gain.

I don't think a dyno even with a big fan simulates the air passing though an engine bay when on the road.

That's just my logic anyway

With you on that logic!!! If getting remap done in summer 25degrees fan no way pushing enough cold air in as if driving at 70mph when cars being revved 7000rpm in same place.  If were the case no one would ever buy induction kit  just smooth airbox with panel filter!!! Have seen it where use 3 massive fans with airducts on one channeled to cooler and other to air intake and other keep coolant temp down.  Only seen that set up once when i to Silverstone with work BMW thing deffo not same set up as when had mine dyno'd this week.

no the air stays on the cold side, it doesn't go through the turbo...

Are these the same for all mk4 engines? If so I'd be interested when you're ready to sell. 2000 W 2.slow.

what i have done is buy a cheap ebay cold air induction kit as i wanted the pipework. and then bought an AEM air filter to go on the end. result £70 in total as aposed to £200.

will be interesting to compare the AEM vs ebay air filter

i'm also going to buy a powergasket to fit to the inlet manifold to try and bring inlet temps down for the long and hot summer!

I'm only 20 minutes or so from Macc. So could drive over to Buxton (once the snow has gone!) or meet somewhere.
