Hi.
My golf mk4 has developed a weird/annoying high pitched squeal when turning left. Usually only when the steering is held at 10 o'clock. It may do it further but its most noticeable then and I think its only above a certain speed.
If its related, I get a horrible grinding kind of noise sometimes when coming out from parking, low speeds when steering quite a lot. This noise does stop when I let go of the throttle.
Weird huh?

cck power steering fluid but one way usually pointo to steering pump or rack
-
Fluid is on the minimum atm, ill top it up today.
Steering pump or rack. How much are they? Is it a crucial thing to fix? Steering feels fine apart from this noise - could it be anything else? Are the two symptoms related?
-
Me and my mate took it for spin and a quick diagnostic (by ears lol)
The noise when turning left deffo sounds like brakes. Its intermittent but can be replicated everytime you hold down the brake lightly when turning left. So sticking caliper??
The grinding noise when using low throttle and turning nearly full lock seems to be coming from the belt/s area. Not sure if it was me but the tensioner thingy seems to twitch a lot during the noise.
Any ideas? Topped up the fluid too

Keep an eye on the fluid i would say you have a leak as said could be the rack seals

Will do.
Could be something belt related?

That sound cost me £1100
Power steering rack was leaking and had to be replaced. To make things worse, it buggered up a year later and was replaced again. I went to a different garage, but still cost me silly money.
