Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can help. I've just bought a 2001 1.8T which I love. It drives great but I've only had it a week and already there seems to be something wrong with the gearbox.
From standing, when I go to pull away the car seems to struggle to get into first gear, stops and then jerks forward and is fine from then on. From a rolling start and just when I'm driving along it's great. The problem seems better the longer I've been driving.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be?
Thanks in advance, Vicki x

Had same problem. You need to change the filter and gearbox oil. Then it should be ok. If it doesn't work then you have to decide of you want to spend a significant amount of cash.

When i bought the car the seller told me the gearbox had been rebuilt, but she couldn't show me any receipts because a friend had done it. Do you think she lied?
If the oil and filter don't help, any thoughts what it might be?
Thanks for helping x

Replace the oil and filter, if no better your looking at a gearbox problem

If an oil and filter change doesnt help, it sounds like one of the govenor or line pressure solenoids are sticking, Its possible if you take it to some one who knows what they are doing they can replace just the solenoid without the box being removed, i know i can on a honda, no idea about a VW Box.
