Hi all, I usually frequent everywhere BUT the mk 5 section, but I'm a golf lover so please treat me as equal!
A friend of mine is looking at buying a 55 plate 2L GT (170HP I think ), is that even a model, I literally know nothing about mk5s...and I am after a few things to look out for that has been done/check when I go to look it at it tomorrow? Obv check all the normal stuff like cam belt/water pump/tyres etc...Any thing that normally goes pop on these suckers?
I have searched but couldn't find a before buying guide
Cheers guys

Petrol or diesel?
They did a 2.0 150bhp petrol engine which I'd avoid.
The other 2.0's are the 140 and 170 TDI's and of course the GTI in petrol flavour

:lipsrsealed: Too late, my mate bought that one. It seemed in good nick and well cared for. Anything that I should pass on to him?

Fantastic car, was it the 170 version? I was told that the turbos are prone to going early on these though. I've got no complaints with mine really apart from them being very noisy engines using the old style fuel delivery method.

Turbo? The 2.0 150 was a N/A car not a turbo.
Are you getting yourself confused with the diesel 170?

I thought at that age the only petrol GT's were 1.4 twincharged with either 140 or 170 donkeys.
-
Yea, my bad. It was the 2.0 n/a. Any bad things I should know about it?

It's not a bad car, it's just that there are much better engines for the GT. It's a bit like the Mk4 2.0 GTI which was the runt of the sporting litter.
They never sold in big numbers as not many people wanted them new The diesels were a far better choice. For that reason, not many people want them as used cars, so I hope your mate didn't pay too much money for it.
