Renault Clio :lipsrsealed:
Either would suit him more than anything from the VW stable, excluding the Up.
They are mincer's cars and Shady is a mincer.

I know......

Well then spill, like the Audi-driving b!tch you are.
The A1 is quite effeminate.

Nope

Does it have a baffled sump?

Its like a Golf but isn't a Golf
So the A1 equivalent is the Polo, which isn't much like a new Golf, but is very much like a Golf2 or 3.
You're giving off conflicting signals, but then you do run an Audi, so are quite conflicted.

Leon :undecided:

It's not all about engine sizes these days. :smug: You willy waver.
-
So just to be clear you're going from a 112bhp 2.0 to a 105bhp 1.2.
You're right - it's not all about engine size, the output's pretty lame, too.

It is actually a fair bit quicker than my 8v with a lot better power delivery too. Plus more economical. £95 for a years tax.

I've got the top model bar the GTI so get a lot of nice features but I've added Xenons and an upgraded stereo to the package. Was going to go for the 17" Boavista wheels like in the pic I posted but will get some others when the time is right.
Candy White FTW!
-
Why didn't you just get one a couple of years old? More car for the money, plus probably a better engine, all for less.

Some of the deals on newcars are awesome, an example is my van, I got a brand new one cheaper than a less specced year old model... Go figure!
-
As Jord said, I got a pretty handsome deal tbh. Plus it would be nice to know the car inside out from day one rather than knowing one or two people have had it beforehand.
-
I thought that when I bought my new car. Don't get me wrong, it was lovely owning a new car. In hindsight though, one of my biggest ever mistakes.

Good on you Kirk. Looks a cracking car.

I bought a C2 VTS new many moons ago. Seemed a good idea at the time, we had a 12k budget and it was a lot better than the Mini we tried. Few months later, the £253 a month payments were becoming a killer. Sold the car two and a half years later for £5,500, so lost over 50% of the car's value.
Never again.

Theres where you went wrong, a friend of mine is currently waiting for a new Polo GTI, he's trading in a 2 year old Polo SE 1.4 he paid 12 grand for and the dealer is giving him £8500 for it with ~27000 miles on, not bad really.
Your always going to lose on buying a new car but imo if you buy the right car it doesn't hurt as much.

Yep! i dont think anyones under the illusion their car will not devalue heavily, i always look at it that it will be worthless in 3 years time when the finance is over, then anything that comes back is a bonus.
-
Could have been worse Bobbarley, you could have plumped for the new DS3 Racing which can go upwards of £24k if spec'd correctly (or wrongly I suppose).
-
My Uncle had one of these. Got his money back after 12 months of it having constant ECU and boost issues.

-
all stock mate, planning to pay this one off and going all out on the next one, golf or polo.got it on 4 years finance, but the sales dude told me to come back after +/- 3years and see what can be done, his a fellow country men so should give me a good deal or advice.
-
Fair enough mate, this is my first venture into new car territory so will see how it goes but on 3 year finance, I will most likely be looking at something pokier, bigger next time round. I'll enjoy the new Polo first
Just looking forward to having HIDs and not getting told "illegal" or "grey area" more than anything. Haha.

I also got one of those fresh out of uni... leased it though so only cost me £125pm. Screwed the hell out of it for 2 yrs then gave it back. Spent too much time getting repaired after the engine fire :lipsrsealed:
Was a good little car until it started to go wrong
-
Surely this is just a classic case of spend alot to save a little? Would you have been better of with a 1.9tdi golf/audi/seat for 2k?
-
But then I can't appreciate depreciation.
-
dont forget, shady like to take one for the team ( apparently ) :lipsrsealed:
so now he is just taking one from depreciation too
-
But then I can't appreciate depreciation.
Are you going to try out negative equity next, or buying a timeshare?
You know some things don't need your appreciation - like hard drugs an alcoholism.
If you've never appreciated a kick in the knackers, just walk over to me and ask next time you see me. Here to help etc.
-
Yes it will depreciate but then all new cars will, and it is something that we must accept if we want a new motor.
However.... Should he have brought a 2k pd diesel. IMO no. Tax, mpg, insurance grouping, will all be excessive in comparison to the new polo. Keep it long enough and it will outstrip the pd car in savings many times, resale will be higher as well due to the "greener" credentials it holds.

I can guarantee that he wont keep it long enough to get even close to making these savings because it will be such a dull underpowered car. If he got a 2k run around your looking at 1k max per year insurance then £250 quid a year tax. Solid engines and 'less electronics' in terms of ecodrive monitors and crap will keep maintainence costs at an absolute minimum and as for fuel cost you have to rev the balls off the little buggers to even get anyware so savings are minimal. I am not an advocate of eco cars, don't even get me started on the sustainability issues of buying a brand new car to save money.....
-
maintenance costs on mk4 pd's are not minimal
-
Someone has to buy new cars, otherwise there would be no used cars would there? If you can afford it then why wouldn't you do it?
-
It's worth noting, I pay £1100 insurance on my 8v GTi, I got a quote on the new Polo, which is actually quicker than what I am used to and it's £400! first year insurance is free too.
All servicing is included in the first 3 years and tax is only £95 instead of my current £240 odd I pay now. Not to mention things going wrong constantly and things still aren't fixed which bugs me.
Right now I feel the decision for a new car is my better option as almost guaranteed knowing my luck I would get a 'good' second hand car and I'd still end up paying a good few thousand sorting it out.
People will always moan about new cars but it's what's right for me right now. I may regret it, or I may love it but it's what I think is the right decision right now.

Yeah Nick, was planning on it but not until after the first year as I'll be on VW insurance, apparently they really don't like you fettling anything, so will enjoy its standardness for a year first.

you selling the current car then? or keeping it as a little side project/toy or anything?
sorry if its already been aswered, ive been bobling in and out of this thread so not read all replys and cant be arsed to go back through them all
-
In fairness Kirk, it doesn't matter how many people tell you buying a new car is this, that and the other. Until you've bought and owned one yourself, one doesn't learn. I'm still kind of glad I got a new car, the feel of a shiny new brum brum that's never been used before, I picked it up from the dealers with 11 miles on the clock. It's nice to remember that I have owned a new one, when I'm rocking about in second hand bangers
-
but dont forget, someone like me will have put some of those 11 miles on the car ? :lipsrsealed:

* the quality of a car is relative to the amount of abuse I can give it before the dealer has to have it back.

It's been for sale for a little bit, just want to sell it to put towards the deposit really. Not worth me keeping as a project as I am useless and would never get it done haha.

Mate, I bought the car when living on the Isle of Man. Many a ferry crossing I saw them loading and unloading the new cars on and off the ferries. You've never seen ragging of a car like it
-
Had many new cars (company) and that new feeling wears off very, very quickly!
Personally I would never buy a new car, unless I won the Lottery!
