Title: 16V Anniversary Calipers and brake size
Post by: GTIANNIVERSARY16V on 17 March 2012, 17:25
Hi guys, i need some new rear calipers for my car, its the 16v Anni mk3. I hears the discs are bigger than the vr6?? So i dont want to be fobbed off or get the wrong ones.
Can somebody confirm the disc size for front and rears?
I also need new rear calipers, i'd appreciate some direct links if possible, as im all over the place on ebay.
i thought about the rears from the mk4 anniversary...but hears i needed a converter kit etc.
Many Thanks.

your brakes are just standard GTI / VR6 items, no bigger...

As above. Just put your reg into Eurocar parts and the parts will come up. You need the 288 fronts not the 280. Don't forget the 25% forum discount.

Euro Car Parts have the calipers you need starting from £74.40 per side but with the forum discount you should get both sides for £111.60 which is a decent price for both calipers. Watch out for the E.Bay jobs as if they are incorrect you have less leverage in sending them back. At least ECP will swap them for you if required

Front discs are 288mm, rears 226mm, same as all other GTI's and VR's

If fitting new rear discs don't forget new wheel bearings as well.

Ahh nice one...gunna price them up...its making a squealing noise whilst driving...everyone is staring at me....and for the wrong reasons lol
My calipers are getting worse...its seemed to have braked by it self at least twice today.....scary.
On Wednesday  mad4vws is going to be fixing it hopefully......might drop in the top mounts whilst hes at it xD

As said front discs are 288mm so same size calipers but if you type your reg number into the EuroCarParts website then they will find the calipers that fit your car and then use the forum discount for 25 percent off

I am doing that but being presented with a couple of different calipers & there is none that are stated to be 288mm, unless i am being more dense than usual!

If you have entered the reg number and two different calipers have come up then the only difference will be the quality and price. Both will be the same but ideally you need to remove the old caliper then go to Euro Car Parts to match the caliper up and avoid the surcharge at the same time.
