It's on the side nearest the front of the car. Fill it up until oil starts to come out.

As said above but if its an early box (pre 89 I think) you need to fill upto the filler hole, then remove the speedo cable and add 0.5 of a litre through there.

Make sure you can undo the filler plug before you drop the oil

just got round to changing the oil.The old stuff looked like the original (160000miles)replaced with castrol 75-90 and wynns gear oil treatment and already feels so much better, not even noticed any 2nd gear crunch and must have been the easiest job done so far thanks for the great advice.

Also how much oil did you use? and where did you get the oil plug washer/seal from (if you replaced it)

Thanks

got the oil on eBay a good result, didn't replace the seal as there wasn't one.took the passenger wheel off but you have to make sure the car is level then refilled until it just started to come out again as advised by another forum member roughly about 1 1/2 litres plus there was 125ml of treatment.

Ok, and when you took off the wheel, did you then lower the car to what it would normally be (still on the jack) or did you jack up all 4 corners?
Sorry for the stupid questions

Thanks

Lowered on the jack, measured each corner from ground to plastic wheel arch until roughly the same
