WAS FRED FLINTSTONE RIGHT WHEN HE POSTED THIS AS IT LOOKS LIKE I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO RESPOND TO HIM !

QUOTE FROM FRED FLINTSONE:
Before I delete my membership from this forum, I just wish to comment on the total lack of interest in anything to do with Stock Hatch.  This section is supposed to be dedicated to motor sport.  We are racing the ONLY VW GOLF in Stock Hatch and have started several topics regarding this effort.  We are competing with modern French 106s Saxos, and various Ford cars with some success.  Why is nobody interested?  Are you all just boy racers with trick paint jobs or are there any serious enthusiasts out there.  The lack of interest on this GolfGTI forum is a mystery.  Is nobody aware that the Stock Hatch Championship is THE most entertaining track sport event in the country.  I give up!!!
:END OF QUOTE
ARE THE 'GolfGTI.co.uk-Forum' REALLY NOT INTERESTEAD IN VWs RACING AGAINST OTHER HOT HATCHES ?    SURELY NOT?? ÂÂÂ
ARE PEOPLE MORE INTERESTED IN THE 'TBH' BO--OCKS

i never even saw the post.. what section was it in?
-
THIS WAS HIS FIRST POST I THINK ;
General / Track days and motorsport / Stock Hatch Championship on: May 24, 2005, 04:57
As an opening comment from a new member, my son Keith Smith is racing the only MK1 Golf in the Stock Hatch Championship this year. Our next meeting is Round 6 at Brands Hatch on 19th June. Anyone is welcome to come and support us as most of the competition is French or Ford. If you wish to see more details or join our forum also, please use this link:-
www.keith.grone.co.uk
In car video footage of the last 3 rounds can also be downloaded from the site. From a spectator point of view it is without doubt the most exiting championship to watch this year.
-
I never saw the post either, but can vouch for most members being VW enthusiasts, just becuase we have a sense of humour does not mean we are not serious about our cars, or are boy racers.
The "TBH" in nonsence was a bit of fun between quite a few hardcore members of this site (myself included), and after all we did post in the "NONSENCE" section.
Rant over.
Hope you have 2nd thoughts mate and stay with us
-
DON'T GET ME WRONG WE ALL NEED A GOOD LAUGH I AGREE IT WAS JUST THAT HE DID SEVERAL POSTS AND NO-ONE (AND I INCLUDE MYSELF ) SEEMED TO RESPOND
I FOR ONE FOUND IT A BIT EMBARRASSING THIS BEING THE 'Golf GTI Forum ' :embarassed:
-
I agree with you, but this is a GTI Forum, not a motorsport forum, I love my v-dubs, have done for over 10 years, and dedicate a lot of my time to both the forum and to my cars, but I am not really interested in motorsport.
The only motorsport that I enjoy watching is the RWYB sessions at bug jam, which is vw Racing.
This forum is more laid back than any other vw forum that I have used, and people here are very helpfull and friendly, and enjoy to go to meetings etc, so maybe it could be a possibility that we could go to a meeting at one of the rounds of the championship that fred-flintstone races in.
But meets take a lot of organisation, as I am finding out with the newark meet, so will need time and effort by an individual to arrange.
PS turn the CAPS OFF
-
yeah but i've just read his posts and it seems that unless people want to know what his son is up to he doesn't want to be a part of this forum. i mean good luck to him and his son, its good that people do the whole trackday/racing thing but at the end of the day not everyone has the time, money, knowhow or interest in putting their pride and joy on the track.
it may be they enjoy owning a golf for how it looks but that doesn't mean that they are any less of an entheusiast. what did he want?!?!?!
he started a post about springs? what sort of replies did he want? and half the posts are only a few days old so in a less popular section of the site he can't expect a huge amount of response when the simple fact is most people on here build a car to drive around on the roads and enjoy it that way.
-
I FOR ONE FOUND IT A BIT EMBARRASSING THIS BEING THE 'Golf GTI Forum ' :embarassed:
not sure why you found it embarressing, i read his post and thought he was a bit childish to be honest, like wotto said its not a dedicated motorsport site and its not like golfs were designed for racing on tracks. he should get over it or go back to his clubgti, we've taken so many of their members its good to give something back!

I have 3 VW's, none of which are perfect, but I love them all. Just because I don't want to thrash them round a track  this means I am not as hardcore as someone who does??
f**k off does it!! f**king twit.
What a f**king narrow minded post to make in the first place. Tbh
-
So long, and thanks for all the fish... tbh.
As said above, this is a golfgti forum not a motorsport forum... i'd rather drive than watch.
Can't please everyone I suppose. The guy obviously never made the effort to get involved in the forum at all if he thinks we're all a bunch of chavs..
-
My take on it was:
'A bloke who is helping his son go racing and is obviously exited and proud of what they are doing .and so wants to share his experience and other peoples thoughts on the subject'.
If one of you had kids doing a similar thing wouldn't you want to tell us about it , wouldn't you? I know I would have but not sure wether I would now  with the reaction  :undecided:
There was a fair bit of chat after the santa pod meet and it wasn't all about how good the cars looked ( AND THEY DID LOOK V GOOD)
Maybe he was a bit impatient for responses but give him a chance hes obviously an enthusiast like us.
Or is it that he is just like ME too old and out of touch to be COOL?
-
Good luck to him & his son in his championship and posting the info on the various GTI forums, its a shame he had no response, but his last two posts were childish, pointless and out of order. If he doesn't delete his forum membership from the forum, ban him anyway.
neee, naaah, neee naaah.
-
Yeah sure i am interested. However i have more things to do that masterbate furiously over a couple of cars going round and round a track, i usually go to brands a couple of times a year and watch the BTCC, no VWs involved in that.
Good on him if his kid is involved and yes he has every right to be proud and post on here telling us about it, but to expect all of us to drop eveything and metaphorically suck him off is bit of a piss take tbh.
He reminds me of one of those dancing flowers that just keeps going off to get some attention,
"alright mate yes well done your kid done, good now f**k off and stop trying to fist me with your bollox about me being a "barry" just because i enjoy working on the car rather than watch someone else drive round and round the track for a while"
TBH - it's all a load of hypocritical bull, if i had to make my decision as to whether i am a "hardcore enthusiast" or not, then i guess my day of tacking the old girl up the santa pod strip means i am no more than prissy little "trick paint job" enthusiast.
Oh no, how ever am i going to sleep now.
Get out more mate, go and get your balls sucked by your misses, and then come back when you have something relatively intelligent to say.
TBH.
-
Slick...I love you  tbh
-
What topher. Joe,Slick and Dubby said. I understand its his son, But i like certain thing that he probley wont, So Should i get pissed if i bring them up and just get air?
I have posted here before and got no responce but thats the way it goes sometimes. 4500+ members are we all supposed to like the same things
I not sure about the boy racer Chav paint job bit aswell.
Pick up your rattle and put it back in the pram

I read all the posts made last night and visited the websites have to say it seems to me rather too soon after 2 days or so to be berating people for their apparent lack of interest ,Everyone wants different things out of their membership of this site some members never get involved with the forum beyond asking for specific help issues with their vw's and i presume not everyone is into motorsport or has the spare time to become more involved. most people have specific interests if they are into motorsport anyway.I prefer rally but you see very few vw doing the rounds nowadays,i wish Fred flintstone+ barney rubble well in the quest for fame and glory...
Tbh...meh is a bad thing.... :undecided:

You do have a good point VENTO GTI EDITION ... he just went about it very badly, a post in "new members" may have brought more interest.
Some posts take days to get read, especially in the quieter sections of the forum like motorsport .. so to insult the other 4697 just because noone saw his posts, is not the best way to make friends and influence people. Might have been understandable if someone had made a tw@tty reply to his posts.
I'm sure some people are interested, maybe he'll stick around and try again without getting everyones backs up

I'm sorry if I was a bit to quick of the mark , I certainly do not wish insult anyone here at all!. I'm realatively new to this malarky and was not that aware that some sections are less read than others :embarassed:
But I have to say that some of you seem to have been a bit on the 'SPIKY' side with you responses ! CHILL OUT DUDES!!!!  :grin:
-
nah i didnt mean you, i meant him
-
I am guessing i am one of the "Spikey" replies.
I don't go out of my way to make these comments its just how i view things, there is no point what-so-ever in pussy around and pretending to be all sympathetic when to be quite honest i'm not.
He made a stupid comment and generally acted like a complete twat because we didn't all get out rocks off because of something he and his son have achieved. He has every right to be excited and proud and yes he is welcome to wallow in it.
To expect the same response from over 4000 other members is just A) unrealistic and B) pointless in getting worked up over.
What he needs to realise is that people have their own minds and likes/dislikes, for some people the golf is all about show and being looked after for others its all about what it can do on track. A MAJORITY have an interest in how it all works, including the scene, the mechanics, the track, the looks. No one person is going to change someone else's opinion on that.
As for the whole age thing. What a load of bollox that is, i have met people up to the age of 50+ in this scene and have got on with them better than someone the age of 21 so age has no reflection on how we view each other.
I am not being cagey, but just tell things how they are, i am not out to impress anyone, you either accept how it is,or move on and delude yourself even more.
I think what you can gather from this is that yes people do care, but we also have our own interestes and if this doesn't coincide with his then i am not going to lose any sleep from it. I keep my car as close to vag standard as possible with the obvious un-noticable touches, (engine mods, suspension set up, internal sounds system) then again this might not be someone elses cup of tea, it doesn't mean i am going to break down and have a hissy fit just because someone has some other thing that they would view to be "better"
I know what i like and unfortunately track doesn't feature particularily feature very high on it, mostly because i have my own problems to deal with my own car. Problems which i enjoy working on, more so than watching someone else drive in continuous circuits. It's just not my thing.
If he really feels the need to bash this place and the people that inhabit it, then so be it. I know i won't loose my mind, or think "OMG OMG he thinks i am trick paint job barry" f**k him, thats his opinion, fact is i couldn't really give a stuff what someone else thinks if it makes me happy then i am going to do it.
Life is too short.
-
Each to their own. Nice little internet site he has at www.keith.grone.co.uk Good to see he is enthusiastic.....
I personally feel motor sport in general is under exposed. We all like VW's for various reasons, own them and use them for different things.
-
I never even saw the posts that this guy did and as stated previously it was put in one of the less used forums and as topher said, an hello in the new forum members would without a doubt have drummed up some support. To berate all people of this site in a very immature and childish manner is pathetic. This is a golf gti site, it has various sections for various reasons, just because someone is racing a mk1 doesn't make me cream my pants but fair play to those it does but track days etc are only a small part of this. I enjoy the shows, seeing others cars and what they have done to them, getting ideas and getting p1ssed at the weekenders and meeting up with people from here, that's the way I am. I am not a race boy (I drive a cabby FFS how could I be....I'm not an hairdresser either by the way   ) and as far as I know, apart from the bits of paint I've had done, it's standard VAG with not a flip in site !
I fail to see how this makes me any less an enthusiast than this guy, if anything I choose not to thrash an automotive icon around the track and risk smashing it up ! lol    If this guy wants to go to ClubGTI then so be it, it's a shame as I'm sure once he used this site he would have enjoyed it, maybe joined in on other sections and he would have been a good source of knowledge, but that's life I guess.  :undecided:
By the way, my sons only 5 1/5 and he's a right footballer so if you don't all come and watch him in the world cup 2020 captaining England then I'm going to go and join "Corsa's are us" forum and maybe even start supporting Everton.
FFS Freddy boy, get real and think about it.
-
^^Not to mention the cost i would take to Find a car strip it out get it race prepared get a crash helmet overalls etc, Plus you need to get it to the track store it when you are not using it. Or am i just missing something
-
yes we are the ones with trick paint jobs and are not going to f**k our paintwork up down the f**kin tracks
who cares about track days when you have clean car
-
I personally enjoy trackdays
Why have a car with trick suspension ,trick engines etc etc and then not using it to its full potential seems a bit of a waste to me .
ALL SHOW AND ALL GO but you won't let it ??
Much more freedom on the track , a lot cheaper in the long run compared to risk of getting fined with all the speed cameras, camera cars etc about .
BEDFORD AUTODROME is ideal as it has large run off areas and when I was up there last time no one knackered their cars. and there were a good 20+ out at the same time NOBLEs, EVOs,SCOOBYs,TVRs,CHRIS MARRs TURBO GOLF RALLY ( very quick) And other much slower cars including my old vento . Unless you drive like a total d!ck you are unlikely to have any probs.
BUT HEY "DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS"
-
By the way, my sons only 5 1/5 and he's a right footballer so if you don't all come and watch him in the world cup 2020 captaining England then I'm going to go and join "Corsa's are us" forum and maybe even start supporting Everton.
FFS Freddy boy, get real and think about it.
Dont do it gibby, go to the corsa forum by any means, but dont support the toffee noses lol
-
For some people though it is not about "all go", i personally enjoying seeing what can be acheived given a standard engine and all that can be done to it.
I.E. i now have a old 1800 valver block, which has been bored out to 2000cc and runs just off 190bhp. without any turbo or massive induction.
By the same token, what is the point in car manufacturers releasing G60s, Turbos, Superchargers, 5.0 blocks??
They can all double the national speed limit, yet how many do you think see the track? 0.1% maybe.... and thats a slim maybe.
My point is, regardless of engine size or what it can do, they are more than likely to never see the track.
-
Well FRED I seem to have got you noticed but maybe not in the way that you had probably wanted
-
^^lol
glad you did mate, im gonna go and watch
-
with the exception of fielder I don't think there are any boy racers here that go out purely to race around the streets causing havok.
if we did we would of bought saxos and corsas instead of the more mature golf gti :D
we are alll enthusiasts at heart. just look at our cars. none of them have driven through halfords and got peices stuck on here there and everywhere and a list of names down the door none of which feature on our cars. How many bits do HKS make for a 106 again? ;)
-

Yup, And the only reasion I have to take it to the streets is because a track day would cost me a month and a halfs wages. Its getting so elitest and expencive these days that younger people cant get track time. Then they complain about street racing.
Im a boy racer and i will happly put my hand up to admit it. I dont go for the sterios or flip paint etc, But i do have a bodykit on the car. However i spend money modifing the handling and performance aspects of the car (at least as much as i can without the insurance chucking there toys out the pram). Ive met a lot of great people (most of which arn't chavs). People need to give younger modifiers a break sometimes. Were not all saxo and corsa driving f**ktards.
-
Awww he posted noone saw so he chucked his toys out of his pram bit of a shame tbh because if he'd stuck around and gone about it a different way perhaps he would have had some more interest I would have been one
tbh isn't bollocks so shut up  we keep it in nonsense the title should give some hint and most of my posts will do it too tbh
-
tbh I agree.
-
The guy obviously never made the effort to get involved in the forum at all if he thinks we're all a bunch of chavs..
oh, we're not, this isnt chav-scum.com....i'll be off too then :undecided:
-
oh well you got a response now, no need to be so b!tchy about it im sure. You should have maybe considered putting it in another topic not everyone is into mmotorsport (Y)
-
