Hi guys,
going to some whows ive seen some cars witha blue tape on the front bumpers to protect them from having any stone chippings whilst going to and from. does anyone know what they are called or where i can buy some from? ive recently just got a respray so want to protect it from chippings! i know 3M do them but just cant seem to find them!
That is the most stupid idea I've seen, along with bra's. If you care about how good your car looks, you wouldn't cover it in tape or sh!tty bonnet water traps that must chafe the paint. The tape I don't get at all, cos it means 99% of the time the persons car looks sh!te, and only looks ok when they park it and walk away. I hate stone chips too, but if I was asked to ruin the look of my car, just so it looks good 1% of the time, I'd say you need your head testing. Don't do it my man, suffer the odd chip, then if you must, paint again in 10years. Don't be so wet ffs!

Of course it will prevent chips to the paint. It's the sharp edges of stone and chippings hitting the paint that cause stone chips. If the stone doesn't touch the paint, it can't chip it. Granted, it wont prevent dents, but how many "stone dents" do you have on your car.
dubber36 - i couldnt have put this better myself! its actually for my mk1 rivage but as there is more mk2 readers i thought it would be a better group to start the thread in. Thanks buddy!
The Mighty Elvi - its for my mk1 as i have my mk2 as my daily :)

Ah. Ok then. Best needed for the MK1. Keeps the paint in good order, and keeps the car together.

After first inspection as expected good and bad lol the front panel seems solid and original (factory barcode still on there) engine bay area again seems solid which is a bonus but then the passenger sill has been replaced....cant coment on quality of work as its covered in primer and filler so need to strip that back but most likely be cut off and new replacement panel (included with car) put on. but driver side inner and outter sill pretty fubar

Spare wheel well is solid which is always a bonus, other area that needs attention is scuttle

Not too bad, may be able to repair instead of replacing hole panel unless i can get a new genuine panel.
So i started stripping her down to see what horrors she holds and get her ready for repairs and it would appear its had a new rear panel at some point (not the greatest job) and also had new sills and outer arches welded in

Which is unbelievable really that someone has spent money doing that and now its in this state.
At end of play yesterday this is how she stood

Must be time of the month in the Mk1 section.

^^^^^ Give over, that can happen to any golf in the wrong hands. Yours would look like that if it had lived the same life. I'll think you'll find mine is fine.
Me? Touchy?... Never....
Aww. Shaun needs a cwtch!

Feeling better?
Such a shame to have a mk2 "show car"
A wonderful drivers car that should be driven as often as possible. Not merely cleaned, polished and looked at.
the blue tape gets broken out about 45mins before the end of a show, leaving at this point is normally good practice, to avoid getting stuck in the traffic
Me, I just get my foot down on the way home! sod the stone chips..
