hello, well basicaly just wanting to know how much oil your 1.8ts go through ive put a litre of oil in mine in the last thousand miles. heard people say it shouldnt be burning that much and others saying 1.8ts always burn oil so thought id ask the question on here! btw im running 540, and its a agu with 165 k on it

Mines on 66k and doesn't use a drop.
As yours is higher mileage it is bound to use some. Any blue smoke from the exhaust?
-
mine was using an extra 2 litres per year but discovered i had a split pipe or four lol so gonna keep an eye on it now my catch can is fitted and new oil breather pipe i know this is no info for you at all but just check your pipes are in order and oil breather aint broke on your oil filter housing as i only noticed when doing catch can
-
tiny bit when cold and driving if you take it to 3 k, since yours doesnt use any. must be my engine geting tired then :( oh dear.. sounds lovely and quiet though! no rattles or owt just was shocked how much it seems to be using

ah right! that doesnt sound good! thanks for help mate but only leak ive got on mine is rocker cover slightly weeping which wouldnt cause this much loss and drive shaft oil seal but engines not leaking ive fitted a new sump and re sealed it

1 litre every 1000km is "allowable" usage according to VW. That's rather a lot but not completely unexpected from a turbo'd engine with 165k on it. Does it smoke much when you boot it?
-
ok its at the front of your engine underneath your inlet manifold just have a check if theres oil in this region as said could be not saying it is.... just so you can rule all possibilities out

erm ive not followed it myself but i when mates have followed me theyve said it gives the od puff, what you rekon it will be steam seals? gives more black smoke than blue really im pretty much sure its not leaking the oil though the leaks it has are only tiny

worth a try i gess mate :) but pretty sure its not as id of had it on the drive way the amount its leaked.. ive done a thousand miles in a week and half and checked the oil and it was at the bottom of the stick, and i checked the oil level exactly a week and a half ago have done a fair bit of motorways and been booting it a fair bit like

It all boils down to a combination of factors; not being run in properly from new and high mileage will take its tow. Most 1.8t will be loading oil through the valve stem seals and piston rings, my engine was using about 250ml every 400-500 miles and was on 150k. Upon removing the intake manifold there were signs of failing valve stem seals and this was the state of my piston before I cleaned it:

After

And of course the cylinder wall were glazed

There were signs of excessive wear on the piston rings and oil rings - all of which contribute to using oil! There was a slight drop in compression across all 4 cylinders and it's clear from the above photos this is expected.
Even the valve guides were caked in oil residue.

88k on mine, 52k of that in the lasy 3yrs, 5w40 fs quantum platinum, 100 miles a day, no smoke and dont use hardly anything, perhaps 1/4l every now and then. But thats with my ocd, I keep an eye on it always .
