This is a little project i've had for the past 6 months, not really spent much time on it but summers coming so i'm starting to crack on with it. Hopefully this will give me some motivation to sort it out! I bought the car for the princley sum of £150 it's a 1.3 and a CL which stands for Crusty Lethargio. It's pretty rot free except or a bit of crust around the arches but only on the inner lips. Anyhoo, when i got her.....

And a damn good machine polish and my prized bonnet later...
Now. It had coilovers and these less than apealing wheels. The following pics are with the coilovers wound down halfway as they were and are in the pics of when i got it. Im toying with the idea of 12" superlights. Here are the results.

i rekon i could go down another 40mm maybe more.
but as she stands now mid sticker bomb...

my plans are to get it running now as im experiencing some serious electrical issues :(
Comments welcome, i know it's a bit childish but i maintain that i am actually still a teenager lol

Lovely colour what is it?
-
I honestly don't know. Depending on the light it can look either brown or red, i think it must have only benn available on the very early cheapo models.

I've seen more Oak green and Atlas greys ones in the flesh than a Terra I've seen one at a show and the colour if paint is right is lovely due to the darkness and red hue to the colour!
Yeah "stock is the new mod"

looks cool 12's are daft looking.
but 13's are cool. You have to be mega low so they don't look too odd though.
-
Im toying with the idea of 12" superlights.
They will not fit over the front brakes, 13" is the smallest you can use.
i do beleive thats a photo of my car on 12's is it not? i had to file down the very edge of the calliper but only a fraction and used 10mm spacers. the barrel of the wheels is tappered so that was enough to let it roll nicely. there was about a 6-7mm gap between wheel and calliper, i've seen closer tollerances on mk2's.
tbh i may just buy my mims back and slap em on as comfort is more important to me than scene points.

well its only a bit o fun,it was a cheap buy and its far from clean, roof was dented and theres shallow dents everywhere else as well as parking damage so its not a serious project, just a beater. its certainly keeping me entertained.

This is my life
You've got more stickers than me! I also have polish but not the paint to polish
Car looks cool tho!
If you have cash to mod a car well then great, if you don't I think this new age of 'rat-look' is cool!

if you stickered the whole car i think that it would pull it off with some decent wheels, but otherwise why not show off the rare colour?
-
i'm in 2 minds about it really, i would need alot more stickers and a wide variety, i've found you can only really pull it off if you have a massive selection and alot of thought and detail has to go into it. The bonnet took 6 months to acrew the stickers and 2 weeks to do. Not sure i can be arsed doing the whole car. The results however could be potentially epic! Wheels tho are a mystery to me now. I think its now impossible to have "different / unique" wheels. So maybe some cream coloured banded steels. The possibilities are endless. Although wire wheels keep recuring in my thoughts. Saw a set with all the adapters on E38 a couple years ago for 800 sheets. Regreting not taking advantage of that opportunity!
food for thought...

these are only $600 with the conversion adapters!!! Gotta love american websites!

That is cool, I like the way they didn't mask up the tail lights when spraying it

What are you doing to make sure those stickers stay put?

i have thought long and hard about wheels and the stickered wheels might be a step to far i think, although the more i look the more i want! to stop the stickers peeling and loosing their colour in the sun i've been wrapping them with clear vynil. the bonnet has been stickered for over 2 and a half years now. Theres a little wear and tear but generally awesome condition!

next up. roof rack.
-
I was just about to say your petrol flap needs doing!
All the above picture look ...
I wouldn't bomb the rack, perhaps go for something else to contrast against the bombed roof, hazard tape/black tank tape?
-
oh no not gonna bomb the rack i've got the roof rack off the polo in the pics, it wants re-varnishing and the metalwork wants re-painting. i wanted the contrast. With the inside im chasing a beige interior, looks like new but will contrast the sticker work inside.
-
right this is my last day of skyving off work with a terrible sickness so i put it to good use

back to work tomorrow, hopefully will be able to keep the momentum going. Got a auto electrician coming next to get it working. then mot and off to baz's for some fine tuning.
thanks for reading. ian

Smart rack
-
argh! I was gonna suggest with that theme, but with a chrome roof runners and wood, then get some retro wheels and even try and get more bright work on her like the mirrors, door handles and bumpers!
The colour is the key on yours and the fact you have early wing mirrors mounted up the door line!
-
i've always wanted to build one using copper plumbing pipe, sadly don't have the know how to pull it off. Cheers for the feedback guys. It's been lovely and warm here and sods law it been pi$$ing it down all day the day before the clear vinyl arrives to seal it all and make it weather proof. Got my work cut out for me this weekend! Really motivated to get it sorted by run to the sun now. ROLL ON SUMMER!

yeh it's curt's old car. where u work too?
-
quick update, works gone completly mental, did 75 hours last week so not much time to play with the car, however it does mean theres cash to throw at it now! So, Sunday i emptied the car out, there was a pile in every footwell of backing paper from the stickers but once it was tidy there was excelent news, it apears i've solved the leak it had so no swimming pool! New fusebox has arrived and with any luck come the weekend it'll go! Still can decide on rims though!
Does anyone have any idea what these have been made from???
pics and frolics at the weekend!
-
They look like early mk2 CL rims that have been banded.
-
very early caddy rims

Found these listed as:
VW VOLKSWAGEN GOLF MK2 13" STEEL WHEEL 191 601 025 AB
think we have a winner! Now to find someone to band them!
-
oh how about
(http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z394/haydnthomas/2012-03-09104213.jpg)
PM me if you want the details.
THEY ARE NOTHING TO DO WITH ME
-
a girly yelp and a little bit of wee came out. those badboys painted in old english whit would be perfect.
-
PM replied too
-
hmmmmmmmm, banded steels are obnoxiously expensive, i have a moral issue with the cost! So, i have found a solution!
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!!! £140 can't argue!
-
I love this style of wheel, they always seem to be 4-stud tho
-
(http://danceswithfat.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/victory.jpg)
IT WORKS!!!!
Changed the fusebox, swapped the battery from my ZS over and boom. Took a minute of turning over for it to catch but once it started once it starts first turn of the key! Can't run it up to temp as the rad is split
But still, a win!
Question: My alternator says 14v and 63amp, the standard battery is a HB063 at 360 amps whereas my ZS is a HB075 at 520 amps. My little car has alot more bollocks starting with the zs battery. Can i run a ZS battery on it permanantly without any worries? I'm not at all an electrics type person so replies in idiot speak please
-
Yeah fine! I have a 720a battery from a T4 on mine.
-
Update:
Progress has been slow-ish, been working loads but got a 4 day holiday this week and my mot is booked for Wednesday so we're on to the big push, all iv'e done since my last holiday is battery, radiator and clear vinyl over the stickers iv'e already done, iv'e now got to get the 2 tyres fitted on the front, n/s c.v. boot, finnish the sevice and play with the auto choke and get it to start a little easier, theres quite alot of cranking involved and when it starts it's bearly running at all until it warms up, i'm sure it will get better when i start using it daily but i need to try and get it working fully. Here's a couple of pics from the past couple of months.

-
There seems to be a spate of in car pools at the moment, must be the weather..good luck with the mot bud.
-
ta very much, it's hounding it down with rain here at the moment so gonna park the car nose downhill an see if it fills up again!
-
Still dry after a whole day and night of rain! AND i now have in my hand an MOT certificate!
I got busy yesterday and did
2x CV boots
Re wired the horn
2 Exhaust hangars
Oil + Filter
Had the 2 front tyres fitted
Got Advisories for:
Slight play in rear wheel bearings
Inner lip of NSF Wheel slightly buckled
Light corrosion on floorpan
Slight play on O/S Ball joint
So a bit more work to do but a RESULT! Pics to follow!
