hi all - I have recently purchased a great golf and i love it only 1 little problem as follows
went to look at the car had a good long test drive on my own during which time i must have stopped and started it 4 or 5 times no problems, did the deal car started fine drove home (100 miles) drove fine stopped for food car would not start! turned over fine but did not even try to fire into life. tried over and over again then gave up got out and made a call for help. went back to the car tried again and it started straight away!
it has been fine no problems for 5 days lots of trips stop and start picking up and dropping off kids, again this morning fine finished work started no probs drove home picked up son to go to football turned it off an hour later same problem returned (As above) in the end i got out locked it up and walked away for a few minutes i came back and tried again and it started. from here a 5 mile trip to collect the dog turned the car off got the dog and again started no probs.
went home & Dinner then had to go out to get bread and again would not start, thought f"*k it i'll take the wife's car locked up and went in search of her keys which i could not find so when back to the golf and it started! Went to asda came out started fine got home half hour later had to go and pick up the Mrs and started no problems got to the Pub and the bloody thing would not go again called a mate he gave us a lift home i grabbed a rope and we went back to tow it home jumped in turned the key and she started.
sorry to go on a bit but i'm stuck has anyone come across anything like this before? any help / advice ?
Cheers

could be as simple as a temp sensor or a number of things buy a cheap code reader of fleebay see if any codes come up

its hard to say ,my car did this once in the 4-5 years iv owned it / same modle as yours. Scan it for fault codes. Crank shaft sensor , i would put my money on. Give it a good service ie oil + filter, air filter and new spark plugs (ngk platinum PFR6Q). I thought it was funny it didnt start ,after going to the pub .

18010, 17953, 17973, 00670, 01165, 16706
I guess this weeks lotto numbers are hidden in there some where and also 16706 is the camshaft sensor but what about the rest and ideas?
