Title: Dean_W's Mk4 GT TDI...........
Post by: Dean_W on 13 March 2012, 18:34
My pretty much standard GT TDI.  Bought with 90k on the clock.  No major mods, only a kamei grill and eibach springs for the moment.

It's just had a shedload of stuff done in a service so running like a champ.  Apart from a slight boost leak at the Intercooler.....oh the joys......

Paintwork is a bit sketchy in places so it needs a good scrubbing and wax.

Project bits for weekend of the 17th are fitting: -

Anni Rear - BOUGHT
Anni Skirts - BOUGHT
Airblade front - BOUGHT
Anni wheels - FITTED

Ongoing parts should include: -

Bilstein suspension
Anti Roll Bars
Hybird turbo - FITTED
Full exhaust - FITTED
Big Brakes - BOUGHT

Bit of an Update.......

Got the Anni wheels on with 4 new Rainsport tyres.  It's cost me a fortune but it's what i wanted.  One was slightly buckled, you can't see it but it showed on the balancer.  So that was balanced out and put on the rear.  Looks like a different car, love the style of the Anni wheels.

With regards to the kit fitting.  All were prepped well, and then sprayed with the same paint we used on the grill, which is a great match.  We had a bit of a problem with my mate missing some paint in the front mouth of the valance............DOH!!!!  I've left these with him and won't be home for a couple of weeks so just gotta wait for that.  They weren't sprayed in a booth so picked up a little bit of dust but nothing that can't be flattened out.

In the meantime, here is Wonka spraying with no mask......LUNATIC!!!!, that stuff stinks to high heaven!!

Update - Cleaning and Exhaust time........

Bought a clay bar the other day and some HD wax.  Both products are the tits!  Got a nice deep shine to the paint now and got rid of a lot of tar spots down the doors.

Also, rang AMD in Essex yesterday to take advantage of the free fitting and half price mapping with Milltek exhausts.

Gone for a non-resonated discrete style and also a large bore downpipe too.  Also getting put on the rollers for a mapping session.  Managed to pick up a Rad, Slimline fans and intercooler off E-Bay for 21 quid so that'll sort the boost leak out before it goes.

Just a question of wether to take advantage of the rolling road time and fork out for the hybrid turbo this week.

Wayne, how you doing son? Wheels look the nuts mate. Well jealous! Where did you get the spraying done? In the paintshops on camp?

Defo smash a decat downpipe on mate, makes a big difference. My bro has a full 2.5" from turbo back and when you are booting it sounds pretty mean!

The hybrid turbo, well the one I have had my eye on for a while, is pretty much a bolt on mod. You shouldn't need much else, maybe upgraded intercooler pipe work, but everything else should be ok for it. Keep us posted!

the TT/genuine Anni brakes make a fair bit of difference and can recommend...depends of the power output you are going for I suppose.

Cheers Si.  Ended up driving a 600 mile round trip for those buggers!!!

Haha........My mate does spraying in his spare time.  For small bits and bobs it's ok.  Usually end up with a few dust spots but we buff them out.  Cheers for the link to the Turbo, it's finished now but i'll send him a message over E-Bay.

Nothing too nuts to be honest.  Maybe 220-230.  Don't really want to get to the stage of having to change a lot of components.

Whats the difference with the Anni/TT brakes to the standard ones?

Anni disks are 312mm. You will only need bigger carriers as the calipers are the same

Some going cheap on here at the mo from the guy I got mine off!

Not sure on spec be honest mate, just left it to them.  They are guessing 220BHP-ish.  And a few more horses due to the exhaust.  Cant remember the torque figures......

Nothing else at the moment mate, just suspension the week after.  Probably gonna go Bilstein, but trying to convince myself to go for the B12's rather then B4's......hmm.....

And i ain't on techie wages yet mate......was due on the 12th, but been delayed by 2 weeks.  This one is courtesy of Mr PPI Claim

http://www.jabbasport.com/pd_turbo.php - is that the stage 2 set up you are going for? Looks sweet mate, do you now any particulars in what kind of hybrid they are fitting to the car mate?

Update..............

Full milltek turbo back exhaust fitted last friday at AMD.  Big thanks to them for the quick turnaround

Car sounds bloody good now.  Rumbles like hell on full chat and quiet when just tootling about.  Power seems to last a bit longer and the boost doesn't drop off as quick.

Just waiting for Friday now to drop it off at Jabbasport.........i think i'm gonna wee!!

Another update........

Upon checking the car over before turbo fit it appears the followers have knackered and f**ked the camshaft.....

So, Jabba have sourced a non genuine camshaft and are trying to source the followers.  Bit gutted be honest as the budget has been smashed now.  But it's a clean straight car so if it needs doing then it'll have to get done.

More to follow in a couple of days......

No pics mate, just left it to them be honest.

Appears the followers deteriorated and then scored the cam to the point of it being f**ked.

I tried reply to your PM's mate, not sure if you got them, think my profile being sh!tty!  Hope your well mate

Update............

Picked the car up from JabbaSport today.  Got to go back up north for 10 days so they have let me have it back.......more below on that one!!!

Turbo is fitted, new cam and 8 followers fitted, cambelt and tensioners.  I got shown the old cam.......it's got half a lobe missing and one of the followers is dimpled to hell!!!!  Could have got very, very expensive

New (2nd hand) intercooler fitted and a new bottom boost pipe. To solve the boost issue that they found.

BUT...............

The mapper isn't happy with the vibration the car gives off, from getting in it today I can see what he means.  Either I got used to it, or it's got worse, not too sure

Spoke through it with Brian at Jabba and going off it struggling to start a couple of times they have put it down to the DMF has had it.  Due to this it's been mapped to about 185 as a make do solution, it did make 212 with the boost leak before they backed it off.

I've asked them to fit a JabbaSport Single Mass Flywheel.  While they have the box off the clutch is getting changed too.  Then, it's back on the rollers for the proper map.  Fingers crossed about 220-230BHP-ish with about 380ft/lb of torque.  But we'll see......

Had nothing but trouble with the car, but JabbaSport have been great, put up with my constant mithering (sorry guys!!!) and always given me info when i've asked for it.  They found the cam issue which I was totally unaware of.  Can't recommend them enough.

More next week............

Yeah just a bit of a headache.  But.....if the cam problem wasn't found then it could have got messy.  Fixing that was the new-clutch-if-it-starts-slipping budget.  It's well over budget but oh well!

Glad it's getting sorted mate! Keep us posted. I'll defo be nipping down for a spin when it is all up together!

Yeah sound mate.  I'll look forward to it.  Think a weekend at a show or something is needed too

UPDATE - SMF and uprated clutch fitted.  Really can't live with it, chatters like hell and totally spoilt the drive of the car.  Good idea as fit and forget, but not for me at all.  Too much noise!!!

Looking at swapping back to a DMF and uprated friction plate.  Plus while the box is back off it's getting a Quaife (i think) ATB diff fitted.  Should make a hell of a difference.

Also, picked up some Brembo 4 piston calipers, braided hoses and discs today from Baxxy.  Really pleased with these, they will look the nuts.  He a top bloke too, talks more random sh!t than me!

Car has been final mapped today at JabbaSport

It made 221BHP and 355FtLb......

The diff, rollbars and dual mass have been fitted too.

Pick it up on Wednesday

UPDATE: -

Not been on for a while as i've had no tinterweb at home.

So far the car is finished apart from the brakes.

So it now stands as........

Jabbasport Stage 2 GT17VNT Hybrid
Jabbasport RR mapped
Turbo back Milltek non-resonated exhaust
Bilstein B12 dampers (I think)
Eibach springs
Eibach F+R anti roll bars
Sachs Clutch + DMF
Quaife ATB diff
Airblade front valance
Anniversary skirts + rear valance.

The car itself is running well.  The added bodywork has really changed the look of it.  Looks a lot more squat and aggressive.  Just need to sort that spacers out, then fit the brakes.  I'll post a topic about that in the relevant section, so any help appreciated.

Ongoing plans will be either an SFS or Allard hard pipe kit, with an S3 intercooler to suit (technical digging needed)
