Title: mk2 and 3 fuel setups
Post by: chrismac89 on 09 March 2012, 07:52
do the mk2 and 3 have the same setup, as in do they have the main pump and an in tank one?
if they do can they be swapped over?
cheers

At a guess the MK3 has a different tank so mounting the main pump from each other would be slightly different?
I've never owned a MK3 so can't confirm that, but my guess is NO.

Why do want to change the main pump have you tested it? Can you hear it prime?

am putting a 16v engine in my car that started out as a 1.3, i have the main under car pump but not the intank one and was wondering if they are the same setup,
so i could just swap the two over.
cheers

I would have bought the tank lift pump off a donnor car (MK2 16V)
Plus I think you need the other pump under the car as 1.3 doesn't have one I think?
If you have a 1.3 pump under the car I dont think its strong enough to handle the 16V?
Which means you need the fuel lines plus relay and other bits to the fuse board.

FAIL.  Power steering is a quicker rack.

IIRC it's possible to fit a G3 tank with the lift and pressure pump assembly as one in the tank, removing the under-car pressure unit.  Nige on here has done it, I think.

Obviously you're going to update your V5 with the new engine size, aren't you?
