going to possible look at a 05 plate mk5 gti on Saturday need a bit of advice please

its done 79 k silver with leather interior looks quite clean in the pics and the guy seems really genuine and said the car is faultless and drives really nice

its up for 5k no offers but there isnt a full service as his mate has done it for him last couple of times also hes not sure if a cam belt has been done

what would u do

do u think its worth the money

and what do i look out for in these done a quick search on this but couldnt find much

ask him for mot test number an see what the mileage has been at mots and how longs he had it

was goin to do that as well whilst i was there

do u know when they should have cam belt change

and do u think its a fair price ?

if the belt hasnt been changed its over due if the car is coming on 7year old think they might be 80k on the mk5 but unsure an 5k sounds ok if its a good 1  :smiley:

i  would rather buy a car that has history even if it never had the belt done atleast u know its been serviced an cars like that need to be :smiley:

yer i sopose ur rite just seems to be the closest cheapest golf to me

is the red one on gumtree yours by any  chance ?

no mate saw that red 1 while i was looking for a replacement for my mother after reading your car for 5-6k post
an dont just buy a car as its the nearest to u look at a few an you will know a good 1 i had to look at 6 audi s3s before i bought her 1

its a buyers market at the moment so just wait till u see the right car for you an take a few for a test drive an if your not sure spent the extra on an aa report  :smiley:

Check the mileage against mot records if all good then go for it, budget to sort the cambelt, service history is nice but some people tend not to worry too much about it.

Definatly check the MOT's mate as I didn't and was made to regret it as the car had been clocked and involved in an accident and I paid £8000 for mine I was gutted only found out when I was taking it for a dsg service at Vw. Managed to get my money back though as I bought it from a dealer and now I got another one and love it :smiley:

Well yes and no he had to get a deposit for a house ASAP so back against the wall

still I'm glad I went to have a look it's made my mind up that I want one  :smiley:

Just need to find a good one for the six k mark lol
