Title: Golf GTI 1.8t questions
Post by: mike1990 on 08 March 2012, 19:50
Hello everyone i'm new here, i've just bought a 51 plate golf gti 1.8t aum engine

Few problems with it, nothing major.. when starting the car the half height display reads "AIRBAG FAULT" then beeps, then that goes off and it says "SERVICE NOW" i understand the service now, but it's only just been serviced. I don't know what the airbag problem is though.

There is a crack in the passenger side wing mirror, could the mirror just be replaced?

Also, the boot won't open.. i've tried turning the key in the boot and the barrel wont move. The handle doesn't do anything either.

Could anyone shed any light to my problems?

Welcome

See this for the service indicator.

Air bag fault could be the plugs under the seats.

The mirror can be replaced which part is broken glass of the cover? You can get bits here http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g4body.php

The lock in the barrel is seized common fault try some WD40

Thank you :) it's the mirror, not the case. I'll try the WD40 tomorrow.

Also, the ASR button doesn't seem to work, i press it and nothing happens.. the traction control light doesn't come up on system check when i turn the key. I think it could possibly be the fuse but i don't know really.

Any advice or information would be appreciated

You got a fault scanner? Or a version of VAGCOM available to hand? If so run a scan on it and it should give you anything and everything that is wrong...or try and borrow one, there is a 'lend a hand section' and a vagcom map, try contacting a few members perhaps!

I do yes, although i've got the old usb 16pin obdii lead that i bought for my old polo 16v, i'm not sure if that would still work

The ASR might not be working due to the ABS fault, get it scanned for codes as a 1st step.

Clear all the codes and see what appears after that some can be old

Thank you, how would i check the ECM in vagcom 409.1? i just cleared all error codes and rescanned.

Also, i found this hose had split.. not sure if it's anything to do with the MAF

The ABS light doesn't light up on engine startup

I will do mate, what are they called?

Also, how do i get to the engine control module in vagcom?

Is it the 01 - Engine controller? just i thought doing vagcoms Auto Scan would of picked up the codes for the ABS problem
