Title: Oil cooler leak.
Post by: mk14dr on 08 March 2012, 15:48
Hello chaps.

Its seems I have abit of an oil leak on my 8v GTI.
It appears to be coming from the area around the oil cooler/oil filter. Ive been to VW and bought the gasket that goes between the block and the oil cooler (there was a choice of two, but for £1.50 each I thought I may aswell get both) and, on the suggestion of the parts guy, I also got the rubber ring seal for between the oil cooler and the housing itself.

What sort of job are these to do? I looks simple enough, but I thought I'd ask and get the benefit of the experience on here.

Cheers..

Any hex bolts use a hammer to bang in the hex bit, trust me you want a tight fit otherwise you could end up rounding the hex bolts over time they collect crap and the hex bit doesn't sit right some times

Also worth checking the seal around the pressure sender on the top of the housing. They can weep around the oring and eventually leads to leaks.

Nothing worse than weeping around the ring.
