Going from a 1.4 Polo to a 1.8T I've noticed i spend a bit more on petrol. Does anyone know how much more miles you get per gallon using premium fuel. I.e you have Shell unleaded and Shell V-Power.
I think my tank holds 55 litres.
Shell unleaded - 135.9 x 55 = £74.745
Shell V-Power - 143.9 x 55 = £79.145
There is a £4.40 difference on a full tank.
So wouldn't it be more beneficial to use premium fuel?
You can also use a Shell loyalty card. You get virtually nothing back but its better then a kick in the balls.
1point per litre of fuel. 2points per litre of Shell V-Power 500 points is £2.50 off fuel. Or you can use the points for other things.
P.S Petrol prices are a p**s take!

its a turbo use the good stuff

Yeah I'm thinking i will  I know every penny counts now days but 4 quid is nothing. So yeah looks as though i will be using the good stuff from now on.

I use Momentum99 which is Tesco's premium unleaded. It's the same octane rating as V-power and whenever I've been on the dyno I've always been pleased with results.
I used to use V-power, but the reason for swapping to Momentum99 was because not only was it a few pence cheaper, but tesco clubcard rewards are much better than the shell driver's club, which send you a petty £3.50 voucher once a year!

Cheers shall bare this in mind.

I am also running my MK6 GTI on Momentum (as Shell changed to BP near me) and I haven't been impressed nor disappointed with it. But I filled up with Momentum straight away from when I got the car new so I have nothing to compare it to. It will be dyno'd before it is mapped so that will be interesting.
-
Keep us posted on the results. Think I will stick to shell its cheapest place that's half a mile away near me

For me with a mk4 GTTDI I notice the difference, atleast 20miles further with shell V power. When I drove the work van a while back I used to fill up with the BP ultimate petrol and noticed an extra 30miles once in a Ford KA van...Food for thought.
I personally try and fill up all the time with shell V power and £3.50 is better than nothing eh?

I would much rather tescos clubcard points but they don't do premium diesel

Shell V power is the best in the UK.
Just do a search on Honestjohn.co.uk
Octane is the same but the additives are superior.
As for missing out on clubcard points. Do what I do and use an M&S credit card. I get money vouchers every quarter.

Shell provide the best quality in this country easily. Some older engines with less sophisticated ECUs do not adapt to different RON ratings so beware, RON 95 is still pretty good by all accounts. For example an old K-Jet cannot take advantage of 99 RON as it cannot adjust the timing.
-
but you can set the timeing to take advantage of it just knocks like fk when you put 95 in it tho
-
My family whinge in states $2.60 a gallon.
