Now my mk2 gti 8v is up and running i have the following problems.
Revs take a while to settle so replaced isv and seams a lot better now.
When cold it takes a while to start (like no fuel) then sometimes starts and dies a couple of times then once it's started to get warm it's ok. somtimes it will start after a bit then run for a minute or so then die. Checked all the vacum pipes and ok.. Ordered a new blue temp sensor but checked and cleaned the connections for the time being.
Once warm the car is fine but takes a bit to start (5 secs or so) then is ok and does not stall. Could one of the fuel pumps be on it's way out.
I have put in new plugs, ht leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm and runs much better but still stalls.
Any ideas.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem last week with my 16v. I sorted the problem by changing the fuel filter and plugs. It made a huge difference!!
-
hmmmm i now have this problem but it arose from changing the ht leads plugs and fuel filter
-
Got a new fuel filter today but dam bolt is rusted so need to drill it out tomorrow. Fitted temp switch but still the same.
Hopefully the fuel filter will sort it.

adjusted the idle screw. See if that works first

Well was looking into it today and the fuel pumps seam to just stop then the car stall so need to find out why they are stopping
Only 2 things it car realy be is the crappy laserline imobaliser (getting replaced with a cat 2 friday) or the fuel pump relay.
Is the fuel pump ment to prime everytime you turn the ignition on as mine seams to be a bit hit and miss.

yes it is, and id suspect your dodgy alarm causing it to be hit n miss
if the fuel pump doesnt prime the car wont start
-
Everything previous to the alarm is ok so hopefully when it gets ripped out tomorrow and the cat 2 installed it should be ok.
-
Could be the fuel pump relay has had it have you got another one you can swap in? Take a look at the wiring behind the fusebox too if you haven't already, you never know what previous owners have done back there. I found the main ignition live feed from the fusebox had been cut, had thinner gauge wire spliced in for an imobiliser, then at a later date some NUMPTY took out the imobiliser, twisted the 2 ends together and wrapped some tape round it

I tested the circuit post fuel pump relay at the fuse and was ok. Cat 2 is now fitted and no more problems.
Laserline is now in the bin after i attacked it with a screwdriver
