Is it possible to polish out a very minor scratch on a monza wheel.I think I caught it with the wheelie bin and you cannot really see it but I know it's there now and it's bugging me.

If it's really buggging you I guess you have nothing to lose by trying, worst case scenario is getting a proffesional to do it if it doesn't go well, good old fashioned Solvol Autosol is slightly abrasive and intended for chrome so worth a try.

I am not sure there are many worse feelings (death and your team getting relegated apart) then when you hear that first scrape on an immaculate alloy wheel....truly heart breaking.
I wouldnt touch it mate, in my experience, makes it worse. True, there are experts who can refurb, but if its only small, I would wait until the next time.. (and there will be one!)

I think I will leave it as it is very slight. It could be worse a bloke at work parked his r32 in a field whilst going shooting and a peacock pecked his front bumper.

I bet the peacock population was one less after that.

I had a few scratches on mine and just polished them out with a machine polisher and some Menzerna polish (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/menzerna-1-litre/prod_228.html).
They came up like new

Just for future reference, don't use autosol on your wheels! Although they have a machined surface they are still laquered like your paintwork so autosol would most likely fook them right up!
If it's just a scuff i would try a decent polish like mike said, just go easy and it'll be fine by hand as it's only a small area.
-
I have autoglym is this considered decent.I have polished the scratch with it,i suppose more elbow grease and time needed as its not faded yet.
-
It depends on the scratch. Is it a light scratch just in the lacquer that you cannot even feel with your finger nail? If so, you might have some joy with elbow grease and polish / scratch remover, but I had very little joy myself when I tried this in the past.
If it's a deep scuff, kerb-like mark, then forget it!

Try some Meguiars Scratch X, it's excellent stuff. I'm pretty certain it will be OK for your wheel and will remove the mark provided it's only a surface defect.

Yep, me too (a few years ago) ... it's definitely worth doing if it's bugging you.
Was the wheely bin plastic ? if so it'll be more of a scuff than a scratch, so should polish out quite easily
... and then give them a good seal
-
It was a plastic wheelie bin, small scratch.I will get some Meguiars as it won't be the only scratch I will pick up,been lucky so far. Thanks for the advice.

it the meguiars very abrasive? will it dull the lacquer finish?
i have a similar mar on my wheel i think from a grain of grit while washing the wheels as it circular. its very faint but can be seen hen the right light is on it

The Meguiars is very mild, I use it to remove occasional minor marks from the paintwork, it leaves a glass smooth finish and removes virtually no paint.
-
i will try some SRP first as its not abrasive but fills imperfections and if it doesn't work will try the swirlX stuff
-
The autoglym paint renovator may work as well as scratch x as I used both to remove bird lime marks on my cars roof and liked the autoglym stuff. srp has little to no cutting action in it its more a.filler.
-
tried the SRP today and it made a very slight improvement but very little.
TBH the scratch is so slight its barley noticeable anyway so won't risk using an abrasive polish.

Or your team could be in the brink of liquidation!!!
Done mine on Sunday with some AG polish and came up like new, you do still see some light scratches on close inspection but all in all a lot better  the black on the monzas was starting to look a little dull and tired looking also before polishing them from a harsh winter!
-
In this world of less is more, how come this is a sticky????

I'm with Mike here.
My garage severely scratched all the spokes on one of my diamond cut Vancouver Alloys. I thought I had nothing to lose so got the orbital polisher out with some Menzerna polish and they came up like brand new.
I wouldn't hesitate in doing it again. After all its just the lacquer that is being polished.
@kennyGTI, from a fan that goes home and away and Europe, stick in there mate. Its tough times but we'll get through it and hopefully come out the other side a lot stronger.

Here's hoping mate! Very sad times at Rangers just now, the whole thing is hurting my head, everyday it's something else! FollowFollow forum is nightmare just now! Just hope it doesn't come to liquidation
*** sorry so off topic here!!! ***
Back to cleaning wheels

My mate who supports Celtic thinks it's hilarious, it most definitely isn't. I have supported The Gers all my life and regularly used to go to home games at Ibrox. Living down here now it all seems so far away but I hope with all my heart that we don't go into liquidation or get thrown out of the SPL. Craig Whyte and his business activities need some in depth analysis.
Sorry for going off topic, keep the faith all you Gers supporters.

Rangers missed out one ticket payment to Dunfermline of £85K which resulted in them unable to pay their players wages that month.
Take Rangers permanently out of the equation and all teams bar celtic would eventually fold. A league of one wouldn't be a good idea!!!
I'll be honest, if the shoes were on the other feet, yeah I'd be delighted to see my biggest rivals in so much turmoil but to see them going out of business would be crazy as that would be the rivalry gone which to me would make the whole thing of supporting a team pointless.
Anyway like others have said, give the monza ago at polishing. It won't do any harm and you might be pleasantly surprised.
