Title: Engine Management Light
Post by: MikeFGTI on 01 March 2012, 09:55
Hi All

Last week had a problem with fluctuating idle on my 2006 GTi, which turned out to be a defective PCV.

The day before the new PCV arrived, the Engine Management Light came on. I subsequently replaced the PCV and this has solved the rough idle. I had hoped the light would go out by itself, but it hasn't yet.

Can anyone tell me if it needs to be reset, and if so whether this a dealer job, or whether there is a way I can reset it myself?

Many thanks

Mike

Will need resetting but you should always scan and to make sure the fault is what you expected it to be. If you don't have VAGCOM and don't really indeed to play with you car that much (in which case it isn't worth getting) then you will need to have reset. I wouldn't bother with a VW dealer as they will just charge you more. Is there a good local indy around your way that you can use? Will charge you considerably less for a what is effectively a 2 minute job.

Yeah mine does that but its because I have a small issue with my remap and the exhaust, causes the O2 sensor to sh!t itself every now again (mental note: MUST get that sorted soon). The code will still be there so its worth finding out what it was.
