Title: When to say that's it?
Post by: Bellend on 01 March 2012, 00:17
After now repairing my Golf three times after other peoples mistakes, a lorry decided to shed a slight bit of its load, taking out my grill (this is the 4th grill FFS!) and bonnet catch. 80mph and the bonnet wrapped round. Ripped the hinges up trashed the screen and bonnet and nabbed both wings although they are repairable and just mishapped the roof. Surprised at how well the roof held though.

Anyone else just feel like giving up on them?

Lucky I had just bought a 1.3 Skoda Felicia for a couple hundred!

Well you must have been driving like a Cnut to be so close behind a lorry doing 80mph, when the lorry is restricted to 60! How did it shed it's load and you not avoid it unless you were being as your username suggests. Either that or your just full of sh!t!

he could quite easily have been in a different lane. We don't know happened, but your reply suggests that you're full of sh!t.

Well I don't see how it could be bellends fault for a lorry shedding its load.

Did you report the lorry to police bellend? Unsecure load is an offence.

In 2013, the transport secretary plans to raise the limit to 80mph.

This is partly because 49% of people break the speed limit as it is now.

It is his fault, end of.

If he were doing 90+ he'd have overtaken the lorry before it happened, next time speed the f#ck up. I hate driving next to lorries and will overtake them as quickly and safely as possible.

Cheers for the sensible replies guys.

Sean, pop down, we'll take a run up the A20. I'll do 60mph in the inside lane, you go in the outside and when you're about 10m away or so I'll throw something very heavy out the side of the car. You can watch it and try and avoid it. Nowhere to go other then the inside lane which will stick you in to the back of my car. Baring in mind it's dark. I'm not Vin Diesel and I don't like the tuna.

Yep reported and trying to get CCTV.

Windscreen coming tomorrow at 85 quid, got wiper arms, bonnet catch and a scuttle n grill, just need a bonnet and hinges.

Regardless of the speed you where travelling at, it is an absolute offence for an unsecured load on a vehicle (i.e there is no excuse). Both the driver and the operator of that vehicle are liable to prosecution for that mate!

To quote the law:
it is an offence under the road traffic act 1988 to use a vehicle or cause permit for it to be used, when the position or distribution of its load means there is a danger of injury to any person. This carries a maximum fine of £5000 together with obligatory licence endorsement and discretionary disqualification.

Big trouble basically!!

Yeah it's whether or not CCTV will find it though cheers.

It's left a hefty whack in the slam panel, smashed the bonnet catch and the bonnet, grills AWOL and obviously the windscreen has had it. Roof is OK though other then minor scratching.

Until they've been there people wont understand.

I hit a tyre on the motorway and it knocked of my fuel pump connectors (tank took a good whack) and it cost me £150 recovery then other costs. And as most have said on here if you have no proof then theres sod all you can do... Serves me right for not speeding in the 1st lane, as jay said i should have been speeding and would have been fine

No worries, I was likely the same last night.

Leigh that sounds even worse. Ah well, nobody was hurt, my boss amazingly sorted the roof. Since it's such a solid roofed car it luckily didn't stretch.

Off the road for a month.  Be doing a fair whack of paintwork to it.
