Thinking of going for sold red next as I seen one new with leather and it looked really smart.
Just want to know if there has been any fading? I like waxing the car so may it should be ok with me.
Pearl black has been a complete and utter nightmare , knew that before the car was ordered but my lady wanted the wee black number so as I got the GTI I let her have the colour. Next colour choice is mine.
Getting the car professionally detailed the last Friday in March so maybe I will put up some photos

I had a red MK5 for five years. The paint looked as good as new the day I sold it.. (apart from a seagull mark )
I have a red MK6 and it is still looks good after two years.. I don't think the reds fade anymore..

Saw a red gtd the other day (my first since putting in my order..mines white) and it looked great in red,I must say...
And my mrs also chose the colour so I know where your coming from.
-
Thanks for that guys :)

My GTD is Tornado red had the Autoglym treatment 'thrown in' when I bought it, washed every week, polished 'now and then' looks great.
-
No fading at all on my Tornado GT either.
It's the best colour in my opinion and best of all, it's free.
-
I looked at ED35 in the showroom today in red/
It was the first time I'd seen one in the flesh and the watkins alloys in steel grey really suited the car.
If only it was available in this colour though

I like the red it works very well on the mk6. Red is one of the 3 colours i narrowed my choice down when i was looking at them for me.
I really like it in red. Not seen any faded ones (a couple with bumper match colour issues but im picky) and if you keep it waxed there will be no issues.
-
i don't think red cars fade much nowadays. my 197 was red, never garaged and only waxed/polished one or 2 times a year and always looks class

-

-

I had a red MK6 from new and it kept it's colour really good...just had to give it a weekly wash and it looked like the day it came out of the showroom.
-
does the red paint flake off as much as candy white paint does and did the factory 'remember' to paint the whole car and not miss bits here and there though?
-
I have to admit the red paint is OK. Stone chips badly mind, but then I think they all do.
-
Just px my Tornado Red R32 after three years of ownership from new and the paintwork was as good as the day I bought it.
The reds do not seem to fade with the modern paint finishes anymore, also keep it well polished / waxed and the Golf in red is the dogs, very easy to look after being non metallic as well.
Only problem I had was some bonnet stone chips but I think this was more down to the VW paint being very hard and brittle rather than the colour.

Here is my current Golf on an 06 plate.

Reds of old used to oxidise causing that faded/milky white look.
Most modern reds are still single stage paint but are lacquered which prevents the oxidisation!

This is what I have ordered and can't wait, but with the standard wheels.
What protection have you added to the paint to get it so shiny?
Looks ace

Its actually Turtule wax with Carnuba wax in it. Cream bottle. Seems to work ok. I have to admit though after nearly 2 years the paint is covered in stone chips. If I was doing it again I would consider the clear plastic wrap to protext it.
