Title: Clutch worry advice please
Post by: walchy01 on 28 February 2012, 19:41
Evening all

I drove the Mrs's VW Golf cab 1.8 (on a 96 plate)  the other day and i was struggling to get it into gear, she said she hadnt noticed it

Replaced the clutch last year and done about 1.5k since, it does seem intermittent as she drove it to work no probs, but was tough getting it into gear coming home  :undecided: :undecided:

Any ideas guys and gals?

Thanks

My guess, gear selecter forks, or clutch release bearing, can you hear a rattling noise when car is in neutral running with clutch down or up?

Could possibly be syncros in the gearbox. Or worn release bearing/release arm/Push rod. (Im not sure on the setup of the 1.8, i assume its like the 8v 2.0 which means it could be push rod/release arm.)

Could even be something wrong with the clutch pressure plate

Maybe try a gearbox oil change first before anything drastic. But drain the oil into a bucket so you can check it for metal filings etc

Replace the cable as a 1st step.

Cable would be a heavy clutch. Not dificulty going into gear. linkage may also be worn though.

Unless its not adjusted properly, but again you would notice that on the pedal.
