Title: how much typically does insurance rise with a stage one remap?
Post by: simonparsons on 28 February 2012, 18:45
as above really.

how much have peoples insurance costs gone up since doing a stage 1 remap? can you say if you an age and any points on licence so i can try make comparisons - I'm late 20s (for a few weeks, and milking it big time!) with no points.

considering one from r-tech - its an AGU so prob around the 190bhp mark i would wager.

i have seen loads from people saying how much it improves the flat spots, torque, etc but how does that translate into real world driving?

thanks all,

Si

cool - cheers Chris. i don't have the budget to stretch to a stage 2, so have been contemplating stage 1 to keep me going. good to know that the price rise isn't too drastic (albeit a reasonable rise).

I work in a large bodyshop and work with the engineers when they assess a car after a crash/claim and tbh they would have no idea its been remapped i would keep quiet

Cheers all for the quick replies.

Is the most noticeable changes with the increase in torque? An extra 40bhp over the standard must make a difference.

Does mpg change much?

How much your insurance price will be effected will depend on your insurer, some insurers will not be able to cover a remapped car, some will charge a ridiculous amount some will charge a sensible amount.   If you are insured with a specialist insurer you are probably looking at around a 20% load on your annual premium.

Ignore this horrendous advice.  If you do not declare that remap, potentially your insurance isn't worth the paper it is written on.
