Title: Funny going's on.....
Post by: walchy01 on 28 February 2012, 18:22
Evening All

Right started her up this morning drove to work, no problems
Came out 5 hours later to go to a meeting and the car turned and fired ran then stopped

Jumped a lift home got another car went to meeting

Called Greenflag as got free cover  they met me at the car at 4pm, tried to start car same response just turned and turned but no fire up, the guy pops the bonnet and at that point the horn came on constantly   He plugs plug 1 out to test as i turn the car and first turn the car starts up as usual sweet as :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

May i add last week i tapped the plastic under the steering column and the horn went off

Am i barking up the wrong tree, or can the horn issue be related to my starting problem?
If you remember, i had to change my steering wheel for the MOT as the horn would not work on my old steering wheel, What do you experts think :smug:

Thanks for any help, not used to problems on my valver :smug:

i would have a look at the cables around the steering column
as you may have trapped or shorted a cable , as tapping it then getting the horn
sounds like a clue

This, take the column covers off and have a good look around.   Has it got an alarm/immobiliser fitted?  I had similar issues and found that the "professional" alarm fitter had left some OEM wiring in a non desirable condition.

I would go with the alarm/immobilzer. The former could be wired to your horn and the latter is likely to have the fuel pump wired through it so no fuel no start.

TBH not had chance to look at any of the ideas offered as been busy busy this week, went to take it out tonight for a spin and the bugger played me up again, it started on the first turn then died and would not re fire after, wierd, why would it fire and run for a second or two then die and not re start :embarassed: :embarassed:

Getting the face on

Definitely something loose.  Next time you have time to take it for a spin, you're better off using the time to have a proper look around.  Start with the steering column and battery earth strap first as that won't take long at all.

Hi Guys

This is a confusing one now

Right, been out to inspect today, (No loose or dodgy wiring :smug:) Turned over a few times and  then it started, ran for a split second then died just like in the original post, would not re start, then would not even turn over on the battery as if battery was flat,so i  connected the jump leads to my other car, even that would still not turn it over, was clicking like it does when starter motor is on its way out, but that was re furbed last year so that should be sound, Anyone got any ideas what to check next as i am little lost as to where to go next... :embarassed:

Without calling Green Flag out gain :undecided:

Thanks again for any help, sorry its a boring thread

Can you bum start it when it plays up? It could be over fueling on one injector or the starter motor?

tell me if im wrong as im no mechanic but mine had a cracked fuse board which was causing start/running problems...may b worth checking?

Bosch said that it was common the fuse board cracking and causing problems. But knowing me its probably got nothing to do with it at all lol
