got my new cheap mk2 driver 1.6 as i knew the problems
aparantly??? the guy reconned the vacum butterfy valves stayed open causing it to over rev really badly, which it did when we picked it up, so during the 60mile tow  which was not fun, the battery died so my mate bump started it while i was towing, a disconneted the accelerator cable to find it idled perfectly all the way home?
is this over reving to do with the accelerator cable or is it still to do with this vacum valve?
-
It cud be the idle screw is set to high!
-
Is the accelerator cable too tight causing it to leave the throttle open?
-
yeah its really stiff to move and once you rev it, it does stay in that place and revs the nackers off it, is this just a simple accelerator cable change?
-
^^^ yeah thats the problem, if your tight you could spray a load of wd40 down the outer and move it around as much as possible to free it up.
-
And make sure the cable isnt kinked anywhere or got a really tight bend in it.
-
ok had another look, i took the cable from the pedal and held it in a straight line and pulled it felt really smooth, then but a gradual bend in it and it went really stiff, no matter how i bent it i could put it back in with it going stiff
does this mean i need a new one
-
Prob a good idea to get a new cable, i only paid £12 for my new one!
Well easy to change, hardest bit is getting the calbes through to the engine bay.
-
Yeah get a new cable. If your feeling really cheap you can try bodging a bike brake cable and outer but i wouldent recomend it. The proper ones aint much so why bother.
