Hi mate is it a 2.0l 8v mine was doin it it needed a new throttle body i replaced and was perfect its the throttle stop switch goes funny
done one on my old mk3 2.0l 8v too........thanks Rik
-
did yours take 4 or 5 goes at starting sometimes? and its only on slight throttle if i rev it harder its fine, changed the arm dizzy and plugs no joy, how hard was it to change the tb?
-
no it would just cut out and start up straight away you might have a crank sensor fault you need to get it scanned for fault codes,
i'm a motor vehicle technician of 26 years so if you want help i'll give you a hand if you want so can you get it scanned for codes...rik
-
i'll look for some software and a cable, its odb 1 do you no where i could find what the codes mean, im in kent aswell so you might be a long way away
-
ok mate when i mean i help you i mean on here fella get the codes and i'll find out for you,you can get a plug in scanner on ebay for £70ish i got mine on there it does loads of things it reads codes cancels codes and much more worth the money i'll get the name of it for you.....Rik
What year is your car the OBD socket is next to the ashtray remove the ashtray the panel to the left of the ashtray slides to the right and its there....
-
yeah i found the port by accident a few months back, and its m reg at the very start of 95
-
stalling has stopped (for now) its just taking a few goes at starting up and sounding abit rough, also replaced ecu relay and fuel pump relay
-
the scanners make is memoscan you need to see what codes are in the instead of just putting parts on thats just a waste of money
once you have the scanner you will have it for future cars you buy they do vw,skoda, seat and audi let me know how you get on.....Rik
-
is there software for my laptop and then just a case of buying a cable or will it be best just to get the hand held scanner?
-
you might have a air leak on the induction side get some brake cleaner get the car running and spray the brake cleaner all around the
induction area like the throttle body, inlet manifold that sort of thing be careful not to spray it on the exhaust manifold,if the revs pick up when you are spraying it that means you have an air leak in that area so try to pin point it down if nothing happens with the revs you don't have a air leak..........................thanks Rik
-
there is software but there not that good but its up to you if you don't have much cash then you will have to go down that route.......Rik
-
there are scanners on ebay for £20ish so take a look at them as long as it reads and cancels it should be good mine does alot more so
thats why it cost more............rik
-
i'll get a scanner and report back then, and also try the other suggestion, cheers mate
-
You might want to try cleaning the throttle housing out and the c.i.s valve too constant idle valve (C.I.S) and see if the throttle switch it clicking when you move the throttle a little bit do this at the throttle body with it not running move the wheel which the throttle cable goes on..........Rik
-
anytime fella didn't catch your name.....................Rik
-
one last thing how do i know what port mine is odb1 or 2 i thought it was 1 but want to make sure, and its chris
-
where is you port is it a 16 pin euro plug or two single connectors, it won't be obd 2 thats newer cars, if you get a scanner it comes with a 16 pin euro style connector on it for obd and obd 2 if you have the two connector type plug you can get an adaptor to fit the scanners obd connector ok Chris hope this help you...........Rik
