Title: mk3 wont start
Post by: Podge92 on 24 February 2012, 14:43
hey guys

my car was starting fine, albeit with a loud noise comming from what i think is the starter motor.
when i revved the car i could hear a loud whining noise as if i was reversing it.

i stalled the car being a berk that i am. And now the car won't start at all, all i get is a clicking noise
ive tested the battery, it starts my uncles 1.8t deisal van, so i know its not that.

Also the engine turns over so thankfully that hasnt seized
anyone any ideas ? its a 1.4

If you can get to it, give the starter motor a few taps with a rubber or plastic hammer, ( a normal hamer will do but not belting great blows but enough to unstick it)
or pop her in gear, and rock her vigourously back an fourth a few times,

Starter motors on their way out get stuck, the above gets them unstuck occasionally, if that dont work the starter needs replacing, I would suggest the starter solenoid is the click you can hear,

I am confused by the comment the engine turns over, do you mean it will run when you bump start it or is it turning over on the starter & not firing?? as thats a different problem all together

not tried to bump start it, i mean i can turn the engine over at the crank, i've ordered a neew starter, so hopefully that sorts it out :)
