Title: Why shouldn't you use washing up liquid when washing a car?

Because thats not what it's designed for, it's designed to cut through grease and food stuffs etc so will have a field day with any wax or other protection you've put on.   :sad:

it's also got a chemical in it which will cause rust which we dont need on our mk3's as there good at creating there own  :grin:

its very high in salt to is terrible for most surfaces on a car

Thats NOT the main reason so iv been told  :cool: :cool:

Its because it turns sludgy in your bottle.... Then it breeds bacteria like nothing on earth!!!!!!!

Then when you use the washers, sprays nasty bugs eveywere... Then people who drive with there windows open, like van drivers get bugs!!

There was a nasty lung illness that went around for a while because of this, or was linked to it anyway...

as for washing your car with washing up liquid... you remember when you asked to do something as a child and you're mother said a firm NO... and then you asked why and were told "just because"

this is one of those situations... NO!

A non car enthusiatic friend of mine used fairy liquid. About 2 years later the laqure peeled.

In the end it went in for paint just so he could sell it! Told him many times but no...

You are thinking of legionnaires disease. Grows in stagnant water which is why its recommended to use proper screenwash to kill the bugs.

haha sh!t i always use washing up liquid,cos im a tight basterd who wont buy car shampoo like turtle wax,i wont be useing it now tho if it harms the paintwork

Yes but you have to buy the correct colour match shampoo and waxes.
