Title: Bocked intake manifold causing overboost?
Post by: mrapoc on 23 February 2012, 12:46
Hey

Just been thinking..I get limp mode when I do WOT for a bit.

This could be because a blocked intake manifold is allowing too much pressure to build up as its not getting pushed straight into the engine.

True? It could also be causing my difficulty in obtaining a decent MPG without driving like a granny?

Blocked intake manifold, seriously doubt that.

Not much help in sorting it I know, codes?

You got a diesel? Whip it off, clean it out and see it helps. If not...then maybe a faulty N75? Mis 'controlling' boost ( I'm guessing here guys )

Had the turbo cleaned out by rtech end of last year

N75 was replaced about 3 weeks ago  :undecided:

Changed the map sensor too

Its the only thing I can think of left to be fair

You got a diesel right? Take the manifold off and inspect. Will take 2-3hours to clean if your competent with a socket set and have a haynes!

worth doing anyway, did the intake on my dads passat 130 and couldnt believe the crap build up

If the map sensor sees more boost than requesting then wouldnt this mean that that amount of boost is actually being produced?
As you would have thought the n75 would close the wastegate slightly to prevent this, no?

Is it possible that the actuator is not set up correctly?

Already had the actuator messed about with. Still limpmode on WOT. Gonna take it to retech, only guys who seem to know their stuff tbh...

I'll take it round my mates at some point (who has a very handy pit) and we can rip it off one afternoon.

Hopefully might be causing my annoying mpg too! Its very hard and labour some to get decentish mpg.
