Do you get taxed (benefit in kind) on it?
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/finance/ianmcowie/100015166/thousands-could-claim-tax-refunds-on-iphones-blackberry-and-android-smartphones/
-
No, I BYOD instead and charge them for my calls.
-
Yes and I use my BBerry to death... Nice find.....
-
I've never heard of anyone being taxed for a smartphone to be honest, pretty sure no one at my work is, they just get given them? :undecided:
-
Same here we just get given them but are expected to replace if broke or lost
-
I don't get taxed on mine BUT I'm not allowed to use it for personal calls, texts or data.

Yes, as per, most workplaces don't declare them for tax purposes as a benefit in kind.
But thought I'd post it just in case.
-
dont want one from them even if they did, it is their phone so they CAN TRACK IT!!!
-
You do LEGALY Have to sign a contract to let them track you though, although if you refuse you loose out on a phone.
-
Simple to turn of data and most are to cheap skate to track via network provider.
Off topic but did you hear about the GPS jammers and use is massive, presumably by truck N van delivery drivers?
-
why would you have to sign to be tracked? its their phone. they have given it to you, they can track their property whenever they like. same as vans/cars given.
-
Because it's the law and could be used in a tribunal against them if something went sour and it came to light they were tracking the employee, same as you're meant to sign a computer misuse agreement and your boss isn't allowed to spy on you without a water tight contract.

Got a company blackberry. Only use it for work, any personal calls and useage have to be declared and payee for. Internet and mail goes through our own enterprise server so is surf controlled. Because of all this I choose to have a personal phone and therefore there is no personal benefit to be taxed on nor is there anything for me to manage/worry about.
