huff...this is an ongoing fail...
am i just a puny earthling or should the sump plug come off as as easy as a wheel bolt?
Ideas for draing oil other than the plug?
I've been told i could just empty out the oil filter....?
HELP!
-
Errr no point changing oil filter without draining sump oil mate!
You need a breaker bar or scafolding pole to get leverage on the ratchet. Someone has done it up really tight that all or the threads have not been undone for awhile!
Recomend you change the nut and washer when it does come off you will proberly mash up the nut trying to get it off anyways?
-
thing is, i've over filled it (idiot) and i just need to get some oil out to be able to drive it to where its getting loads of tidying done and a full service anyway so i literally just need some oil out as the filter and oil and sensors are being done the next day........
maybe i should just eat some spinach.....worked for popeye....
-
How much did you over fill it by, and how far away is the garage your taking it too? It may well be fine for a short trip, just dont drive it hard.
Its a bugger when a simple job becomes a problem!
-
it's about 40 miles...i was thinking of just starting the engine with the oil filter off for a few seconds.....
-
cant you just syphon some out ? you can buy oil extraction tools
but as said all you need is some leveridge to get sump plug off , either braker bar , pole , using a couple of spanners etc
-
i did think about syphoning some out.......lots of ideas now!
Really just need to put more pressure on the ratchet....as long as the car doesn't fall on my face in the process...
Thanks,
-
you could use a trolley jack on the end of a spanner/ratchet and use the weight of the car to release the nut

.........amazing logic. this will be tried as soon as i get in.
-
I have used this method a few times on stubborn bolts lol. let us know how ya get on

Slip a couple of old wheels under there aswell, thats what I normally do

1. Could he just not disconnect the breather , put it into a bottle and turn the engine over?
2. Remove the dipstick tube and syphon it out?
3. Remove the oil filter, release some oil so it's drivable, and then take it to a garage.
4. Andywash.
3 seems likes the sensible option, no?

3 does seem to be the easiest, but i need to try the bolt again as i don't want to be defeated!
-
Ooh ooh an Andywash option.
it's been a while.
I definitely vote Andywash, with a side order of man the f*ck up and undo it.

............................................I'm sad to say i agree.....

As you've said, just take the filter off and ditch the oil from there. Think its almost half a litre in there alone. Put back on, job done.
-
If you changed the oil and overfilled it surely you must have had the sump plug off ?
Why bother f@@@ ing about with filter siphon etc just undo the plug it will have to come out eventually anyway.
-
Dont drive it mate overfilled it can cause badness you don't want to get fixed!
I say Jons suggestion of sucking out of dip stick hole a good option not sure how much oil is in the head but taking the oil fillter off gravity will let is bowls out over you!

With the huge amount of "FAIL" going on in this thread, are you turning the sump bung if the right direction?
Anti-clockwise=Undo Clockwise=Tighten
Small, far away

OK...........monumental EPIC FAIL coming up.............
car the car slipping off the jacks twice, I decided the oil filter was the best way to get oil out.....couldn't get that off either....so i decided to syphon some oil out.....that actually worked!!!
I was chuffed!
.........................so chuffed that I managed to forget to put the oil cap on...............
drove it 40 miles with oil spewing out the top...............
Got to the garage with no problems though wchich was lucky.
I opened it up to find a cloud of burning oil smoke and the oil cap where i left it........not a happy bunny.
I then clsoed her up and put my keys through the letterbox of Kent VW....withouot locking my door..................great night out.
Hopefully it will be cleaned and refilled today....if it hasn't been stolen.
FAIL.

You know if you open the passenger door, reach over and push down the driver's lock you can then close the locked passenger door, right?
I feel it's only a matter of time until Darwin acts on you.

Good on you giving us all a giggle, but there are some worrying admissions in there!
-
I just needed to get it out of my system as it can never ever happen again.....
