Title: New Driver from the USA
Post by: AustinEngy on 22 February 2012, 23:29
Good Evening,

My name is Austin, and I recently purchased my first car.  Originally, I had planned on getting a Saturn SC2 or Honda Civic, however, this little gem popped up and I just had to have it.  Although it is pretty rusty (a big problem for older cars in the northern states,) it has a great interior and an incredibly clean engine bay.

It's a 1996 Golf GTI with aluminum rims.  Other than that, my car has no mods and is completely stock.  The exhaust has a leak somewhere between the engine and the Catalytic Converter and I'm getting that checked out this weekend.  So far, the only things I dislike about this car is the lack of an enclosed storage space.  It has the tiny little compartment in the console but doesn't completely suit my needs.  I also dislike the way that the gauges are lit up.  It uses LED's pointed at the gauges and they have an ugly green tint to them.  The one on the right is out so it is sometimes hard to see my spedometer at night.

The main things that I'd like to do to this car are:
1. Get the Exhaust Fixed
2. New Head Unit
3. Replace Gauge Lights,
4. Subwoofer
5. Body Work and Rust Repair.
6. Windshield Replacement (It has a chip that was repaired with a DIY kit.)

Thanks for reading my post and I hope to learn a lot from this forum,

Austin
