Title: What's this connector?
Post by: murraymint on 22 February 2012, 19:18
Saw this connector/plug thing at the back of my engine bay, and was wondering what it is/ does?

It's the one to the left of the horn. Can't see anything it should be connected to? (haven't looked very hard tho as it was raining)

That means no ABS FOR YOU! is the usual brake distrubution block and pump still there or has it been converted to non ABS or something :undecided:

Could it not be for an after market alarm ??  If it was ABS surely the light would be on dash.

Just looked and No  :undecided:. So first thing figured out I have no ABS  , but theres a bracket been made up and the brake line have been redirected, (so not a total bodge job which is good.

Next question, on the back of that plug in the pic I posted. Has a black wire and a white that has been cut, and two new wires have been soldered in and they go back into the car. I'm gunna have a proper look at the weekend were the wires go but for now any ideas what these are doing?

Cheers

Title: Re: What's this connector? Edit no ABS :(, new question

Yh I know gunna have a proper look at I this weekend and gunna sort it ASAP! No the light doesn't do anything, but the airbag one is normal, so thort this was normal when I bort it as my old 1.6 didn't have abs so didn't know what to expect

Thought that would be the case  ,previous owner probably had issues and ripped it all out  :rolleyes:loks like you got some parts to buy, lets hope all the wheel sensors are still there,be careful mate because you will have no brake bias as it is controlled through the abs system.

Great . Well at least I know what needs sorting now tho, cheers guys. So question number 3. What parts needed? Already had a quick look on eBay and abs pumps are fairly cheap which is good. Il have a look for sensors are ther but may aswell replace them too. so so far the list is

Abs pump
O/s, n/s sensors

Please can you completebthe list for me?

Thanks for the help guys!

Abs pump
O/s, n/s sensors
Control module(ECU)
Distrubution block
ABS light cluster
EDIT.
The ecu will have to come from another 16v or vr only as they have the brake bias control and edl, then i think it will need to be recoded to your car somehow, some one correct me if they know better.

Is this the pump and the distribution block or just the pump?

Thats the pump ,block and ecu but you need a 16v set up which has differences as in brake bias control, look for people breaking 16v and vr6 of similar age to yours.

That's got all three? Would be ideal. Yh I've pm'd a couple people breaking 16v's. Is it true what you said about needing to get it recoded? If so how would I got about doing this?

What year is yours mate? You can have the ABS stuff off our car for fairly cheap but you wana be sure its the right bits. You do realise your going to need to make all new brake lines etc as well? Also how do you know your ECU isn't still set up for an ABS system? It could just work from plugging it all back in again.

It's an N reg 95. That would be ideal bud. My dads mates a mechanic and has his own garage so reckon I'm gunna get him to have a look/ do it for me.

Ours is a 97 ABF, see if you can get the dealers to give you the part number for the abs module you should have fitted and we can see if its the same as the module on ours. They may have changed it

Not to sure about the coded bit,but when i changed my ABS ECU for another that had the same serial number with a different letter at the end it didnt work so i scanned it and it said incorrectly coded or something like that  :undecided: im sure it can be sorted though with the correct equipment.

Just rememeber there 2 types of abs fitted to the 1995 models. early cars have the abs ecu uner the rear seat (and a brake bias valve)

and later the ecu is with the abs pump (and as said before dosent have a bias valve)
