Morning all....haven't been on here for a few years as I've had a break from all things VAG. Looking to get back in with a secondhand TT purchase. Which of the below two would you go for?
Completely standard late spec low mileage mk1 1.8T 240bhp quattro with recaro bucket seats...leaving enough budget for wheels, suspension and engine tuning

or newer low mileage mk2 TT with 2.0 TFSI leaving only enough budget for a remap.

The TFSI engine is supposedly good for big bhp with just a remap and is a lot better engine than the 1.8T. Anyone know if the mk2 is much better as a car than the mk1 other than just the engine?
-
Mk2 with 2.0 TFSI any day
-
Mk2, just looks so much better.
-
Mk2 with the TSFi lump has to be the choice.
-
Im looking into TT's at the moment, all I can stretch to is the 1.8 225 mk1 which im happy enough with
-
I read somewhere that the handing is much better on the mk2, so is the power delivery especially low end and the gearbox is smoother.
Even if I didn't read the above I think I would still go for a mk2, MK1 has been around a loooong time now.
-
mk2 looks a hell of a lot better
-
you're on some serious crack if you don't get a mk2
-
Mk2 all the way!!!
-
Hello Mate not been around lately!
VWperformance took a pounding :lipsrsealed:
TFSI
MK1 for nostalgia
MK2 for the rawness
Jay
-
See Rhyso for a remap too
-
Mk2 FTW. I'd have one anyday! Even though I'm not a hairdresser
-
MK2 for sure, the MK1 looks girly.
-
Welcome back

we all knew it was going to die eventually. I'm still in touch with Roy, but no others.

The MKI TT is based on a Golf4.
The MKII TT is based on a Golf5.
I don't understand the dilemma you have here.
-
Welcome back dude!
MKII all day long, better car in every single way. You can always get wheels and suspension at a later date.

I think the Audi TT is an ugly car!
Surely you can find something better?

What, like a Golf3 with Jewish racing brown wheels and blue lights?
I'd be tempted by a super-low miles Golf5 GTI in comparison, to be honest, but if you want a coupe, you want a coupe.
-
Audi TT is THE worst looking car ever built IMO.
-
Mk2 with 2.0 TFSI all day long

I'm put off by limitations of FWD.

You should realise I totally concur with your sentiment.
Golf R then?
-
are R32 engine tuning packages any more mainstream now than they were a few years ago?
-
Gen 2.
A mapped Gen 2 will be quicker than the Gen 1 with all the mods you are planning.
Plus you have a newer car.
-
Defianttly the mk2 mate, is quicker an can handle more power, guessin it handles better, looks a lot better and is jut a nicer car
-
I think the mk2 is a better car all round, the mk1 might be quick but its got a poor image and the handling is pony.
-
I'm not so sure now, there's so much you can do to a MK1 TT init

And was startin to get worried there was someone who like it
-
scrap all that and get a leon cupra r!
na mk2 man :)
-
Hmm... I'm beginning to question my earlier advice. The styling of the Mk1 is just so much better than the Mk2. I don't know if the looks are enough to tempt me away from the better engine and the newer interior.
Hmm...
-
I'd go for the mk2, when you get some extra cash in the future you can really sort it out.
-
got to be the mk2
first of the new tech is going to be better than last of the old tech.
and it'll problay be worth more when your done with it

I was worried that you thought my taste in mods was so poor.. All those barryboy mk1's are nasty!

I don't want to go FWD again.

Hmm...
The mk2 looks good with the rear spoiler up but looks a bit plain/low spec with it down.
I have to admit, I'm leaning towards the 240 sport because I prefer the looks and I'll get to play with it.
