I've recently bought a 2001 (51) Golf 1.8T GTI. The problem being both heated seats (cloth) are not working- nusiance now winter is fast approaching.
I have checked the fuse number 44 which i believe is for the heated seats- when i uncovered the fuse board (right handside of dashboard) this fuse was missing, so i thought great an easy fix. (I've also checked fuse number 5 which is ok)
After rushing out and buying a couple of replacement 15amp fuses, i tried to fit it but with no luck. It seems as though the terminal 'slot' is missing from number 44 fuse location, so there is no grip on the fuse itself. I double checked and i can't even see the little metal terminals which hold the blade. I find this strange as all the other fuses seem ok.
The car is fitted with the winter pack ie headlight washers which are working fine. Also all other equipment is working ok.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Welcome
Have the seats ever worked?
-
yeah they worked fine b4 i rang the guy i bought it from and he said he never had any problems with them? i may have been looking at the fuseboard the wrong way round so i changed the one in the opposite corner on the bottom and still to no avail?

They may have burnt out though im not sure both would go at the same time

this is what i thought i find it hard to believe that both would burn out at the same time. the fuse is definitely all in order i've just had it on tick over for 10 - 15 minutes and there was definitely no heat coming from them any other ideas?

How about checking for a complete circuit on the elements / checking for 12V at the plug - using a multi meter?

lol ok problem is you might have well have been speaking japanese to me then technical stuff like this is not my strong point lol any chance u could simplify that? sorry

lol ok if you get a muilt meter : http://www.maplin.co.uk/domestic-multimeter-37279
you can test the there is a complete circuit by putting one end of each lead on the terminals in the plug under the seat.
If its burnt out you wont have a complete circuit.
You can also test you have 12volts power at the seat plug when its switched on using the same method - just chaging the setting on the meter.
If you dont have power you can trace it back
Hope that helps?

ok will give that a go tomorrow, will let u know how it goes

So they both worked fine when you bought the car and then stopped?
Got to be a electrical problem somewhere if thats the case.
