Title: MK4 stereo
Post by: jonesltd on 21 February 2012, 14:59
Have a pioneer 900bt installed in at the moment but changing cars soon. In order for me to take the 900bt out and replace it with another stereo of a single unit will I have to change the double din unit or buy a little shelf so I can have a little cubby hole at top and stereo at bottom like some of the mk4's came with?

I cant sell the car without a stereo in it

You've answered your own question - yes a single unit will require a pocket/storage box.

No I know that...I meant can I just buy a little shelf thing (divider) or do I have to do what I did last time in order to get the double din in - buy an entire use case/surround?

I dont really want to buy a new centre console thing to support the single stereo if I can help it so buying a new shelf and fitting it to my double din item would be a winner

To fit a single DIN head unit in a MK4 you just need to but a storage cubby to fill the gap.  You can either go for a Golf one or do what I and others do and get a Polo one.  This fits below rather than above the head unit and brings it to a better position for reaching from the drivers seat.  Downside is that the cupholders can interfere depending on the HU you use.  You don't need any other cages or fascia adapters other than the single cage that will come with whatever head unit you get.

Alternatively PM me if interested in a Gamma head unit and single CD (came out of my 130 a while back and I'm just now selling on my 130 with an Alpine unit installed).
